Karen Smith's Journal
St. Patrick's Day is Coming
Written Feb 10, 2014 8:14pmHello Friends and neighbors,
I'm writing for 3 reasons tonight. First - A quick update on the Family. We are all doing great, and enjoying 5 days off from school because of the bad weather we might get here in Atlanta :) We were originally scheduled to have a "winter break" on Thursday, Friday, and Monday, but now are out with weather until next Tuesday.
Second - The book is DONE. I am having copy #1 printed later this week, and plan on making a run of roughly 100 that will be available in the next 60 days. I have no idea what they will sell for yet (I'm turning it into my printer this week). When I have this information, I will let post it on both here and FB.
Lastly - To celebrate Karen's legacy, and to raise money for the Keane Foundation, we are throwing a St. Patrick's day Celebration/Fundraiser. Details are given in the link below to the Keane Foundation website. Karen loved St. Patrick's Day, and I wanted to start an event here in ATL for her friends to remember her by. Thanks to all the Starr Lake Friends who are helping me organize this event.
We are doing great, better every day. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers over the past couple of years. You've made me feel loved.
The book is done (almost)!!!
Written Dec 9, 2013 8:45pmAfter procrastinating for many months, I finally got back on this project after Thanksgiving and made a final push. Is it perfect (I'm sure it's not), but it's finally at a point where I'm going to have it ready for people who are interested at our first annual "Karen Smith's St. Patrick's Day Party". Thanks to the couple of friends that I've had look this project over, and to the ones who will help me with the finishing touches. I'm very proud of what Karen wrote, and I'm anxious to share it with everyone.
Just a quick update on the rest of the Smiths. All the boys are doing well at school, with Will and Cole staying busy with their sports, and Jake spending his free time on the computer. I continue to play "old man" soccer, and also help out as assistant coach on all the teams that Will and Cole play on. We all are looking forward to a trip to So. Cal over the Christmas break!
I'll be putting out our annual Christmas card sometime in the next 2 weeks. It's been a tough year, but we're hanging in there, and living our lives (as Karen would have wanted us to).
Peace and Love to all, and enjoy the holidays!
Quick Update - Smith's are doing OK
Written Oct 6, 2013 8:43pmHey Everyone - I know it's been a while, so I wanted to post and let you all know how the Smith's are.
We all spent the last 3 days at "Camp Magik", a grief camp run by professionals in the North Georgia Mountains. I think it was a pretty good experience, but found it heartbreaking to hear some of the other grief stories (murder, suicides, children passing, or combinations of the three). Cancer is an awful thing, but kids being murdered is senseless!
Anyway, after having all of us analyzed, we appear to be doing extremely well. We still have our moments, but have more good times than bad. I'm proud of our little family, and thankful that we have each other.
On to some other news. In the near future, the Billy Keane Foundation will be changing it's name to The Keane Foundation. It's focus will also be expanding to include helping families in crisis in the Atlanta/Greenville areas too. Along with this news, the Keane Foundation will be holding a fund raiser on or about St. Patricks day (March 17th) next year. As I know more details, they'll be posted on this and the Keane Foundation website.
Thanks for all the love, prayers, and support, and keep it coming.
