Judson Scott, 13, lives in Auburn. Judson is many things to many people: a loving son, a caring brother, a loyal friend, a competitive teammate, and so many other things that we can’t list them.

We have visited this site many times for others but never imagined that we would be creating a site for one of our children. But here we are today creating a site for our son Judson.

UPDATE ON JUDSON:

It has been a month since our last update on Judson’s condition and as you can imagine the Scott Family has been very busy this New Year. We have definitely had a Blessed New Year. Judson has exceeded the doctors’ expectations on his recovery process both physically and mentally. We will try to briefly summarize the major events over the last month.

THERAPY:

After being evaluated and tested by the Speech Therapist at RehabWorks, it was determined that Judson scored in the normal range for a 13 yr old boy. Therefore, he would no longer have a need for any speech therapy. The same thing happened with Occupational Therapy. Judson had very little problem completing the tasks that he was given, so the OT was discontinued as well.

This only left Physical Therapy. He will definitely be continuing PT for several months. He is now being lead in PT by Steve Kisor at RehabWorks in Auburn. Steve has worked with Judson for several years mostly related to baseball conditioning and arm strengthening. Judson’s PT has been limited because he hasn’t been released to walk. This will change has soon as his external fixator is hopefully removed in February. PT will be very important then to help regain the leg strength that he has lost over the last 2 months.

EDUCATION:

Since Judson has progressed so rapidly with his mental recovery, he has been able to begin his core studies for 7th Grade. The teachers and administration at Lee-Scott Academy have gone out of their way to accommodate Judson’s home tutoring during his recovery. Beth Stewart has been tutoring Judson since the Christmas break was over for about 2 to 3 hours a day. He is caught up with the rest of his class and doing the same work as they are now.

Judson returned to school last week for the first time. He went for one class and of course the lunch break as well. He really enjoyed seeing all his friends that have been so supportive and prayerful for him during his recovery. The kids were great helping Judson get around in his wheel chair. He will continue to go to school on a limited basis until we and the teachers feel that he is capable of staying for the entire school day.

ACTIVITIES:

Believe us that Judson is ready to get out of this wheelchair. He has mastered the use of it and can get around our entire house including his room in the basement. He does have to go outside and around the driveway to get there, but he can do it by himself.

Judson has made the most of his time being at home when everyone else was at school. When not being tutored or in therapy, he could be found outside shooting his paint ball gun, racing his RC motorcycle, driving his RC 4-wheel drive truck thru the mud, or just hang around outside when the weather permitted.

As most of you know Judson is an experienced and very successful deer hunter, so he could not wait to return to the field. I felt like this would be the best therapy of all. I volunteered to be Judson’s personal therapist. We call this “HT” – Hunting Therapy. There is nothing like sitting in the woods for a couple of hours enjoying what God has created.

To make the HT a little more advantageous for Judson, I was able to locate a hydraulic deer stand that was designed for physically challenged people. You can tow it behind your truck into the area you are going to hunt and then set it up. The stand will go about 20 feet in the air giving the hunt an excellent view for the area. See the attached pictures of Judson using the stand in Macon County, AL. This stand has made our HT sessions mush more enjoyable. We want to thank Tom Lanier for allowing us to borrow this stand for the last three weeks of the deer season. Judson has already harvested one deer since his injury and we hope to take a couple over the last weekend of the season. See the attached picture of Judson and William with their deer.

WHAT IS NEXT:

Judson had a very good report from his follow-up visit to Children’s Hospital on Jan. 18th. All of the doctors and therapist were impressed with how well Judson was doing. We have scheduled an appointment with the Orthopedic Surgeon on Jan. 31st. He will take x-rays and evaluate the stability of Judson’s pelvis. If everything appears to be okay, they will operate on Judson the next morning Feb. 1st. They will remove the fixator and pins, which have caused a great deal of pain for Judson over the last few weeks. He can’t wait to have this removed so he can wear normal size clothes and begin to walk!

Debra and I can’t thank everyone enough for the prayers, cards, emails, posts on this site, meals at our house, and everything else that has been done for our family during this time. We know that God intervened on Judson’s behalf only because of all the prayers lifted up for him. So, please continue to pray for Judson’s full recovery and that his pelvis has healed enough next week to remove the fixator.

Goodnight and God Bless.
