Joshua’s Story

Josh was diagnosed with Malignant Rhabdoid Tumor of the Kidneys in January 2007. Treatment ended in September 2007. After 10 rounds of chemotherapy, 6 days of radiation, and surgery to remove each tumor from the kidneys Josh was cancer-free and doing GREAT! However, a biopsy was done July 2008 and cancer cells were present.

My name is Joshua Hardy and in January 2007, I was diagnosed with Malignant Rhabdoid Tumor of the Kidneys. I had a tumor on each of my kidneys. The left tumor was about the size of a softball when it was discovered and the right was about the size of a walnut. They had orginally thought that I also had a mass in my chest but, Praise God it was just an enlarged gland. I was considered to be stage 5 and had little to no chance. My treatment ended in September 2007. I had 10 rounds of chemotherapy, 6 days of radiation, and I had surgery to remove each tumor from both of my kidneys.

In July 2008 a biopsy was done and cancer cells were present in the thymus gland. This is the gland that has been an area of question since the beginning. It has now developed into a problem that needs attention. We will do 12 days of radiation and 2 or 3 more rounds of chemotherapy. There is a lot of hope that this incident can be eradicated. We continue to put all of our hope and faith in GOD.

Our prayer is to give thanks to GOD for a long healthy life filled with joy and blessings with Joshua and our other children. We give all the glory to GOD. Thank you for visiting my site and thank you for adding Josh to your prayer list.

Latest Journal Update

What a great summer we have had! The warm weather has been Josh's friend. He has felt great and consequently has gotten a lot stronger physically, a lot more independent. We have truly enjoyed going places such as the pool, Reedville, fishing, and Kings Dominion.

We went to Memphis last week for follow up visits with all the specialists that Josh sees. Josh's heart continues to WOW the Cardiologist. Josh's ejection fraction (a measurement of heart function) has measured on the low end of normal at 56% since last fall but it measured a very normal 65% with this past echocardiogram. I love to talk with the Cardiologist because he just marvels at what a miraculous recovery Josh's heart has made.

The nephrologist (kidney doctor) was as happy. Josh's kidneys have recovered to 70% of function which is also miracle after the insults his kidneys experienced last year.

Josh's immune system is still being stubborn though. It unfortunately went down instead of up. We still need to rid Josh of the oral steroids. It is just a slow process because the steroids support his lung function. We can see Josh's lung function improve as he gains strength and endurance. We would like to have his immune system back before the cold and flu season kicks into high gear. Though I am confident in the LORD that by Jesus' Stripes that Josh has made a full recovery and so in due time, it will all fall into place.

Josh doesn't have to go back to Memphis until the week of Halloween. We pray in that time we can take less to no more steroids. We pray and give thanks for the gains in Josh's strength and endurance. We give thanks for the things that are right with Josh's body....

Thank you God for Josh's strong healthy heart, clear beautiful lungs, and all his cells that work in perfect harmony. Thank you for healing his kidney function, tummy function, and his liver function. Thank you that his fully recovered immune system is right around the corner. Thank you for healing his skin, his hair, his blood. Thank you for his teeth and his beautiful smile. Thank you for eyes that see clearly and his ears that hear clearly. Thank you for the hope that Josh will grow to be tall and strong. Thank you he is fast and smart. Hard working. Truthful and honest. Dedicated and disciplined. Thank you for all of Josh's successes. Thank you for his leadership skills. Thank you for making Josh patient, kind, loving, generous, faithful, respectful, fun loving, and handsome. In Jesus' name I give thanks in prayer---AMEN.

I hope you all have treasured your summer and found GOD's beauty in the relaxed moments summer offers. Until next time, have fun.

Dear Lord ~

Thank You so much for summer. I treasure warm weather and a slower pace. Smiles, sunshine, and ice cream. You have blessed us with 4 fantastic boys that make all the things about summer even better. Thank you for the opportunity to rest and renew. Thank you we don't go back to school until after Labor Day. What a gift. Thank you for the structure school brings. Thank you for growth and development. Thank you for learning and friends. There so many details in life I am so thankful to have. Help me Dear GOD to always s rejoice in those details and not feel bogged down or anxious. Fill my heart with so much joy that my mind has no choice but to follow. Thank you GOD for healing and peace. In JESUS' name I give Thanks in prayer---Amen.
