Joshua’s Story

Josh was diagnosed with Malignant Rhabdoid Tumor of the Kidneys in January 2007. Treatment ended in September 2007. After 10 rounds of chemotherapy, 6 days of radiation, and surgery to remove each tumor from the kidneys Josh was cancer-free and doing GREAT! However, a biopsy was done July 2008 and cancer cells were present.

My name is Joshua Hardy and in January 2007, I was diagnosed with Malignant Rhabdoid Tumor of the Kidneys. I had a tumor on each of my kidneys. The left tumor was about the size of a softball when it was discovered and the right was about the size of a walnut. They had orginally thought that I also had a mass in my chest but, Praise God it was just an enlarged gland. I was considered to be stage 5 and had little to no chance. My treatment ended in September 2007. I had 10 rounds of chemotherapy, 6 days of radiation, and I had surgery to remove each tumor from both of my kidneys.

In July 2008 a biopsy was done and cancer cells were present in the thymus gland. This is the gland that has been an area of question since the beginning. It has now developed into a problem that needs attention. We will do 12 days of radiation and 2 or 3 more rounds of chemotherapy. There is a lot of hope that this incident can be eradicated. We continue to put all of our hope and faith in GOD.

Our prayer is to give thanks to GOD for a long healthy life filled with joy and blessings with Joshua and our other children. We give all the glory to GOD. Thank you for visiting my site and thank you for adding Josh to your prayer list.

Latest Journal Update

Sorry for the delayed update. I had a few distractions that kept me from focusing on writing. In general though, no news is usually good news.

We are very excited about the progress Josh has made. We have been weening the amount of steroids Josh takes and it has worked to increase Josh's immune system. His T cell survey was up from 70 (in August) to 220 with 400+ being the goal. We are more than half way there. Praise GOD from whom all blessings flow!!!!

Now Josh's lung function did drop a bit because of the reduced steroids so he does have to go back up a wee bit. Seeing his T cell numbers rise with less steroids was great news though. We know that once we get his lung function up and we can see the complete return of his immune system. We just need time and prayer.

Josh's cardiologist is the most fun to see. He continually marvels at the miracle of Josh's heart recovery. He explained that he rarely sees an injection fraction improve to normal, but he has never seen the stress "something?" improve to normal after heart failure, except for Josh. He said the only thing that is keeping Josh's heart from being completely normal is the pressures in the left ventricle and the right ventricle are not equal. They are both normal pressures but not equal. He said that is because of the lung dysfunction. But let's see......his kidneys failed but now they are back functioning beautifully. His heart failed and is not miraculously normal. There is NOTHING GOD can not do! I claim Josh's complete recovery of his Lung Function and Immune System in Jesus's name. By Jesus's Stripes Josh is completely healed. I believe it with all my heart without a doubt.

Josh's strength and endurance continue to improve through his hard work with his therapist Mrs. Mary and Mr. Dan. The St Jude staff just marvel at how great Josh looks every time we go back for check ups. We believe the increased muscle Josh is gaining will also help with his Lung Functions recovery.

All in all it was a great visit. They have even reduced the amount of medication Josh has too take. It just keeps getting better and better. Praise GOD for keeping HIS Word. “Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.””

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭21:21-22‬ ‭

With all of our good news, I do want to say that Josh's immune system, though it is on its way, is still not fully recovered. We still have to take lots of precautions and we still need lots of prayer. Cold and flu season can be particularly dangerous for Josh. So let's cover him and our family in prayer for a healthy fall and winter. Thank you all for your prayers. We truly appreciate even if you just whisper one quiet little prayer. We know prayer works.

We go back December 15th for check ups. I will update again then. Thank you again for your prayers. Until next time, have fun.

Love~ Aimee

Dear LORD~

Thank YOU for manifesting Josh's complete healing right before our eyes. Thank YOU giving us the opportunities to find joy when we visit Memphis. Thank YOU for the relationships you give us at just the right moment to lift us up and fill us with encouragement. It is in Jesus's name I give thanks in pray---Amen.

Praise God indeed for those beautiful, healthy boys! I love to hear how wonderfully Josh is doing and how God has made all things new. JB continues to do well too. He is healthy and in the 8th grade now. Can you believe it? He was in second grade when we were at St Jude with you at Ronald McDonald House.
