Jose Pequeno's Journal
Written Apr 19, 2011 7:01amGood Morning All,
In response to the last posting within Jose's Guestbook I decided to take a moment to respond.
Jose is indeed doing well and did have a visitor from NH a couple weeks ago. This week he has all of his children visiting which is great! It had been to long since they were all together so he is DEFINATELY enjoying that!
To sum up on home life. Yes I did indeed give Jose his first niece so our house and my day to day is very busy. However Jose is getting his speech therapy three times a week at home, pool therapy three times a week at home and physical therapy three times a week at home. That said, his therapies do not all take place on the same days. So six of the seven days within the week he has therapy going on. Which makes our house very busy especially with the normal day to day events that take place within anyone's home and the new addition.
Jose underwent a procedure in Bethesda MD Late February Early March that closed a small opening on his scalp. Since we returned home from that he has not been going to the hyperbaric treatments but that will be starting up again soon.
All in all Jose's health is still holding up well, things are well. If there is ever a time you need to reach out to Jose or would like an update on him you can email me at the email listed on this site.

Written May 29, 2010 10:20amHappy Memorial Day Weekend Everyone,
Jose has been doing wonderfully since surgery.
Right after surgery there was a spot on Jose's scalp that the skin did not do well. Since then however we came back to florida he spent a couple days in the hospital and started the hyperbaric treatments. These treatments are basicaly putting Jose in an oxygen chamber and infusing his body with pure oxygen.
The oxygen treatments have done amazing for him and are a big part in the healing of his new skull and the dead skin on the very top of his scalp. These treatments last for about an hour to an hour and a half Mon-Fri.
His responses (non-verbally) are getting much more accurate and he has become a bit more vocal as well.
Health wise Jose is doing absolutely amazing.
The kids all came down for their April Vacation and we had a great time together. They first flew to Bethesda and then we all flew to Florida. We spent some great quality time together.
This weekend we are now in Naples FL celebrating Memorial Day. Mercedes flew in as well as some other close friends. We are celebrating the holiday and spending some great time in the Naples area. This area has been amazing and very receptive to our family. We made the drive down yesterday and will be here through the holiday.
Happy Memorial Day everyone - enjoy the holiday weekend. We are all doing the same!
Written Apr 10, 2010 6:41pmJose is doing great!!
On Thursday Jose sat up in ICU for the first time since surgery and did AMAZING! He held his head up and balanced it then got a good shave. He spent 3 hours sitting up in the chair.
On Thursday early evening they decided to move Jose out of ICU and up to 5 Center. The transition was interesting as far as for us (mom and I) but Jose was fine with it, other than running his mouth a bit when he got annoyed. Not words but ALOT of noise. :) We started the "settling in" process on Thursday and continued it yesterday.
Yesterday Jose had a great day the doctors are still very impressed. They changed the bandages he has on his head yesteray and I must say they did a great job! Yesterday afternoon Jose watched some movies very intensely and ran his mouth a little less other than when the NYFD came to visit. He made sure he attempted to chime in on that conversation!
Then yesterday evening Tammy and Joe arrived as well as Dave who came back for the weekend. Tammy made sure she chatted with him and got a couple smiles out of him! :) Jose definately enjoyed that! He had a great night last night.
Today Jose has been nice and mellow just visiting with us and watching some more movies. He sure is enjoying that alot.
The surgeon, Dr. Kumar, is very impressed at how well Jose is handling all of this. Of course we are all closely monitoring him but he is truly doing excellent!
Thank you all for the continued prayers and support!
