Hello again everybody!!! Thanks for stopping by!!! So lets see...whats new. Friday of last week, Jonah went to see Dr. Sagal (the muscle doc) He gave Jonah that look over he normall did and watched him walk up and down the hall in his walker and braces. He was very impressed with the way the braces make Jonah's legs stay the way they are supposed to. Which is a good thing since that is what they were intented to do! He did show us just how low-toned Jonah's muscles are. He was able to bend his thumb back to touch his wrist with no pain. That is not what should happen but thats Jonah! We did have some extra questions for the good doctor though. Amber was given some interesting information regarding a new disorder that seemed to have Jonah written all over it. It is called Dopa-responsive Dystonia. This is a disorder that apparently is caused by low amounts of Dopamine begin produced in the brain. Some symptoms include Parkinsons like tremors (Jonah), low muscle tone (Jonah), Seizures (Jonah), and can often be misdiagnosed as Cerebral Palsy (hmmmmm....Jonah). There are more but those are the biggies. This is usually cured with medication. We pray that is could be something this simple. Dr. Sagal says he sees lots of cases of Dystonia but is not sure if that is what Jonah has. While that seemed like a dead end, he was willing to persue this possibility. He wants us to video tape Jonah with all his tremors to see just how bad they get. Thats because another symptom of Dystonia is that all the other symptoms worsen at night. This is the case for Jonah. It seems to worsen at night or when he is tired. The medication for this has little side effects which is another perk. Dr. Sagal also said after we send him the video, he might be ok just trying the medication to see if that works. Please pray that this might be the break-through we have been looking for. If not, well thats ok too. We just really love Jonah!!!
Saturday we surprised the boys by taking them for their first ever trip to Cedar Point. They had a blast!!! It was just awesome seeing Jonah have such a great time. He just loves riding the rides, which as a ride hater myself is not looking good for the future. Good thing his Mommy likes to ride those death traps. So after that little rant Jonah did only ride the little kids rides but..... He was a little upset when we saw Snoopy while we were eating and Jonah never got to "pet him?" But he was really stoked when we went to the Snoopy ice show. By the time we left out little boys were quite tuckered out. Myles fell asleep before we left the parking lot and Jonah before we were out of Sandusky.
So that is the scoop for this week. Just keep praying. Pray that maybe this Dystonia is maybe the key we we have been looking for. And pray that we may someday find the answer if it is not. We will always trust God that he has the answers and hope that someday we can know them too.
Love
Brad, Amber, Jonah and Myles
