Hi everyone! I thought I would give you a quick update. John is now attending out-patient rehab. 5 days a week from 9:00-4:00 at the Rehabilitation Institute. My dad takes him and picks him up. He is getting stronger physically...doing much better getting up out of chairs. He has had some falls...balance is still an issue...he gets his feet tangled up. They are working with him on using a cane, though. His memory is better in terms of carrying on a conversation..not any re-looping. He is also doing better following conversations...maintaining concentration for 45 min. to an hour. Short term retention is still iffy. For example, I mentioned needing to turn the clocks back and he perseverated on that idea for several days...asking each day if I had turned the clocks back. Aaugh. He writes down important stuff in his daily log. Personality wise, he is less cynical...loves all children and dogs. Turned into a big old teddy bear. His children comment on how "cute" he is because he is now so sensitive and emotional! When I get impatient, I just remind myself how far he has come and remain grateful for his sweet and caring personality. I've heard horror stories about changes in people's personalities due to encephalopathy. Happy thoughts to you all. Lynn
