John Barnes's Journal
Written Sep 24, 2013 12:34pmThings here have been quite busy. John for the most part is in a very good place. He is still receiving therapy for his left arm and his strength in that arm has increased 100 fold. He can lift a 25lb dumb bell now. He is working with a new physical trainer at a gym in Brandon that challenges him. John loves it. We have a new Life Skills Coaching team that will be able to take John to the next level. He is much better at behaving when out in public. John is now able 90% of the time to catch himself before he says something inappropriate or behaves in an appropriate manner.
John loves Matt and there is great respect there between them. Matt is such a great help and loves John like one of his own. John gets along with his 4 new step-brothers. My once very quiet and lonely house is full of energy and love. We are hopefully going to be moving to a much larger home on 12 acres. John will continue to have his own residence on the property. He is extremely excited about the move as we all are. He has already picked out the plans for his new home which will be double the size. He desperately needs it as he has grown out of his guest house. It is a short sale so it will be an education in patience and perseverance. Hopefully by the new year we will be getting ready to move.
In a few short weeks John will be having his 30th birthday and I really want to plan something special. I would like to ask any of his Army buddies to please contact me to see if we can plan a surprise party for him. He misses the camaraderie so much. He still is not driving so he doesn't get to socialize much on his own. My email is email@example.com.
I am attaching a couple of pictures from the wedding. John walked me down the aisle and gave the toast at the reception. He did a great job.

John is doing fabulous. He is in such a great place. Healthy, happy and progressing forward. His left hand despite the burn, skin graft and injury is functioning more and more as time goes on. He works hard at therapy for his hand and it is paying off.
I have met the most wonderful man and we became engaged 2 weeks ago. He is so awesome with John. So loving, caring, respectful and understanding. He is the father of 4 boys so I will once again have a houseful of activity. It has been an amazing blessing. Today we spent the day with Matt (fiance), his sons and his parents, sister and her family. John and I are very happy. It is so touching to watch John interact with his soon to be step-brothers. He is the oldest but the other 4 boys are 21,20,14,12. The two youngest ones idolize John and he is so good with them. Sometimes Matt and I just sit back and laugh because they are a riot together. It warms my heart to witness the interaction and connection.
Never in my wildest dreams or hopes did I think I would ever be blessed so abundantly. In addition to all this, my daughter has been blessed with a second daughter and they are all healthy and well.
It has been an exhilarating few months. It has been a whirlwind romance between Matt and I but we are both very sure of our hearts and thank God for bringing us together. Matt is such a loving man and a great father and he is excited to be a part of our lives. He is such a positive role model for John. Matt has vowed that he will be beside me every step of the way in caring for John and he asked me to please name him as John's caregiver should anything happen to me. I made sure from the beginning that he understood exactly what he was getting into, even making a trip to Bethesda to meet with Dr. Williamson so he could have any questions answered by the expert. Matt has never been anything but understanding, caring, loving and supportive of John, me and the situation since the moment we met. It has been a blessing beyond anything I could have imagined. My prayers have been answered beyond my expectations. Since my divorce from Rick, I expected to be going it alone as I knew there would never be someone willing to live in my world!! How wrong I was. How powerful GOD is to make everything just perfect.
No date has been set but it will be soon and most likely a very small family gathering as Matt and I say our vows. Matt even had the sensitivity to ask John for his permission before he proposed. John is very happy for me and I am ecstatic that he is surrounded by positive energy and love from others. He even stated to me last week that he is excited to be a big brother. It is so amazing how it has all worked out.
Merry Christmas everyone. I pray everyone has a blessed New Year. God Bless
