Ups and downs... As I mentioned last week, Joel's been very weak the last couple weeks. Saturday morning he woke up with a sore throat and saw white in the back of his throat. Thrush...just like the like time he was on steroids to 2 weeks straight. His doctor called in a prescription for him, so we hoped it would clear up in a couple days. Then last night around 8pm, Joel started saying he was cold and even shivering. I took his temperature and it was high enough that we had to go to the ER. They admitted him and immediately started him on IV fluids, antibiotics, and antifungal medicines. His throat is what's bothering him the most right now. For now, the 2 remaining weeks of chemo will at least be postponed. It sounds like he'll be here at least a couple days, just to make sure they've cleared up whatever infection he may have had. In addition, they're concerned about possible infection at the site of his port. They've sent blood cultures away to check on that. If there is infection there, he may have to have the port removed and/or replaced. Joel's parents were still in town for Thanksgiving, but their plan is to head back to PA sometime this afternoon. Please pray for their safety. I woke up to snow blowing outside. Also, please pray for my and Joel's attitudes as we got little sleep last night and he's not feeling well. Compassion is not always my strong point, though I've definitely grown by leaps and bounds in this area this year. Hope you all had a great long weekend. We will keep you updated. ~Kristen
