On June 10th, the day finally arrived for Joanna’s homecoming. What a beautiful day that was. I had 100 balloons donated to us, for the event by a very generous man named Frank from Balloons and More in Farmingdale. We had balloons in the parking lot, balloons going down the walkway, balloons on the patio, balloons in the house. They were all over. Allie and Brittany made welcome home signs and Joanna’s girlfriends, relatives and friends all made or brought something to make the day complete. She had a smile that was big enough to light the world. It is so great having her home after a year and 7 and ½ months in hospitals and rehabs. It is so nice to kiss her good night and be able to walk out of her room and know that she is safely tucked in her bed and not have to leave her in a rehab somewhere to go home without her. Joanna has been home for four weeks and we are still working on finding her a day aide, we still haven’t gotten her transportation, the contractor still hasn’t finished the renovations on the house, and her therapies and services till aren’t in order yet. I am still busy everyday working on this resolve. Medicaid will only cover 2 hours of OT, PT and Speech a week. Of course that isn’t enough for Joanna to have a fighting chance to recovery to the best of her abilities. So I am working on getting her more which will all be out-of-pocket expenses. She will be starting another session of Hyperbarics and she wants to go back to Therapies4Kids which I really can’t afford with the purchase of the Walkaides. Things always have a way of working out and Joanna is doing so much better now that she is home. Joanna danced (with help) at her cousins, Kristen and Jim’s wedding this past weekend. What a beautiful night that was! So I leave it in God’s hands.
