It's been so long since I've visited this site. I lost my job back in September- and I haven't been on here since. However, I think about you all. Jim- you look great. I will never forget the first thing I did every morning when I got to work was look at this website. Every night when we went to bed you were in our prayers. You have a wonderful wife and family. It's amazing how people have come to know and love you through this website.

Carol,

I must admit to being a little stunned. Jim isn't the kind of guy who plays in traffic, though that could be debated considering what we used to do behind the telephone truck up in Greenland. Ask him if he remembers being towed behind it when the Danish Consulate car came around the corner out by the lake.

Are you staying in Durango or Denver? Does Jim go back regularly to Denver? Would you mind if I called? It's been a long time and lots of water under the bridge.

More later,

Gary

What a wonderful treat to read your update.  You're so right about the choice to use it all for God's glory, and I've been inspired this past year by your growth in faith and your willingness to share the journey with so many whom you've never met.

Happy New Year to all of your family.

In Christ,

I'm so please to hear about your recovery, Mr. Lewin. I was thinking about your story again recently and wanted to see how you were doing. I felt so sure that the news would be good; I think it was due to your family's attitudes after your accident. You have a great support system in your family and friends and they all believed that you were going to do well. Congratulations! Your spirit is an inspiration to me. PS. Be kind to your driver! :)

Dear Jim and Carol,

Your card was so encouraging and uplifting thank you. Also, loved seeing Jim with Sara on the news Thanksgiving. God is amazing.
Sorry for not being better at keeping in touch . I had a 3rd spinal fusion in September and had 8 rods and screws removed and they added more so I am fused or will be from L2-3 down. I came out of surgery having back spasms and they have continued. They are thinking the new added rods and screws are on the sciatic nerve but the dilemna is they can not removed them until the 6-12 month point as I am not fused. So like you guys patience is the key.
Michael and I hope to go to Israel with our church in Jan. maybe a dip in the River Jordan is the answer.
Anyway I must tell both of you what an inspiration your journey has been and my prayer for the new year is that the progress continues. I will never forget last year at this same time and what wonderful strides you both have made.
I hope to meet again some day to share a hug. Blessings to you and your family in the coming year.

I am so happy to see the transformation and glad to hear that Jim is progressing.  God is still good and his mercy endures forever.  I am not surprised to see Jim doing as well as he is because our God is true to His word and His word does not lie.  We know that we will go through trials and tribulations, but we must trust and believe that He will bring us through.  God is awesome God and Jim is a testimony to this.  May God continue to open the windows of heaven in your life and Give you favor with him and with man and prosper your lives like never before.  Thank you for sharing your story and encouraging me.  You are part of my family now :-)  Merry Christmas!!

Hey there Lewin Family!

I am so happy to read about your latest news and Jim's continued progress. I had a dream that I met Jim last night. ODD I KNOW!!, But true!
I had a dream that I met him and he shared his survival story with me. I realize that might seem odd to you, but please believe it was super odd to me. :)
I remember reading Jim's story on CNN about a year ago and I have no idea why it has impacted me the way it has....I think about you all constantly.
I really am so proud of you for staying postive throughout all of the negative and I'm so happy that God blessed Jim.
God bless you all!! I'm sure this Christmas will be the best ever for all of you!!

Dear Jim and Carol,
I hope you know how blessed so many of us feel to have had the absolute honor of getting to know both of you as well as your family.  God does work miracles, and Jim, I know you are one of them.  The Trauma Team at Swedish and all of your ICU nurses were able to be used by our Lord who is our ultimate healer.  I personally will never forget our first prayers together for Jim.  I remember a feeling of honest hope and encouragement that came over me afterwards.  I KNEW God had Jim, and you too Carol, in His arms and He was in charge.  I didn't have to worry about this man who lay there in such a broken and critical state.
You two are an amazing testament for the power of prayer and faith tied together with so very much love for each other and for our Heavenly Father.  Jim, you've been called a true hero by many. You are a humble man and you have a hard time with this, but our country needs so many more men like you.  And Carol...wow!  I watched you go through all those peaks and valleys at Jim's side every day for so long.  You are a hero also.  You know the true meaning of your vows "in sickness and in health."  Believe it or not, you were the "dream" ICU family member.  You wrote down everything everyone said, all Jim's test results, questioned things you didn't understand, and supported the staff as they tried so hard to keep Jim alive.  Your prayers and faith that spread to many all over the world, were the real glue that made him whole again.
God now uses you both to share your story, which is His story.  Thank you for your eloquent words on CaringBridge.  God's love and your faith are a powerful message.
Have the merriest of Christmases ever!  May God continue to bless you both with good health for yourselves and your family in 2010.  Greg and I send our love.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

and Happy New Year!!

Hi Jim and Carol -

It is great to hear from you all again!  What great news that Jim is still making good progress!   But of course, I knew he would!  I want to say once again, that even if his eye continues to remain blind, that once he becomes acclimated to being blind on that side, he will most likely be able to drive just fine, with only one eye.  I should know:  I've been driving with only one eye since the beginning of my driving experience- about 44 years.  But then, I was born with very little sight in the left eye and it became a total loss by the time I was old enough to drive.  It hasn't been much of a problem, although they were extra tough on me for the driving tests and it took me three times to get my license.  Since Jim was a "pro" driver before, he is at an advantage over me in returning to driving with only one eye.  He knows some "tricks of the trade" as it were, that I probably have NEVER known!  So be encouraged!  God is still working in your lives!!

Thank you, Carol, for sharing with us your faithful journey during this time of deep stress and anguish.  It has been a time of great learning for all who have been following your story.

Many, many blessings,
