Jim Hillibish's Journal
Written May 21, 2013 3:16pmWe had a great day yesterday. Jim saw Dr. Khan, his oncologist, to get the report of the CT scan he had last Monday. Dr. K told him that he got a call from the radiologist who read the new scan, comparing it to the ones done in late Jan., who wondered if Jim was recovering all right from his surgery!. In other words, his thyroid tumor has shrunk so much, it looks as if it had been surgically removed!. The other tumors, while still visible, are smaller too.. He has much more energy and is able to do just about anything he wants, gardening, lawnmowing, etc.. Thank you Sutent!. He will start his third round this Thursday, and side effects remain very mild, and go away completely when he's off the drug, which reportedly cuts off the tumor's blood supply.. We are so grateful that we learned of this great drug from Dr. Mittal at the Cleveland Clinic
Written Mar 23, 2013 4:57pmJim wrote about his experiences with this latest recurrence of his kidney cancer in today's Repository newspaper. He mentioned this journal, so I guess there will be a few more folks reading this. He's still doing well with the Sutent, but will cycle off of it for a couple of weeks, starting Wednesday. He can tell that it's building up in his system, and has mouth sensitivity and general tiredness -- but those are mild side effects, compared to what they could be. And it's not slowed down his production of columns and articles in the paper! We both thank you for your good wishes.. Kathleen
Written Mar 7, 2013 6:44pmWe went back to the Cleveland Clinic today to see the oncologist Dr. Rini. He seemed pleased with how Jim is doing, and said we should continue with Jim's current dosage of Sutent. Jim continues to have just minimal side effects, and his raspy voice has improved and he can swivel his head further around, so it seems the swelling in his thyroid has subsided a bit, all good news. So we're really happy right now.
