Happy Thanksgiving!
As we sat down for our Thanksgiving dinner today, we had the traditional, "what am I thankful for" go around the table. "I am thankful for being home" was Jenny's response. It was a fairly emotional moment for our family.
Jenny's mom, Karen and stepdad, Dick joined us for Thanksgiving this year. Everyone has had a great time, watching movies, talking, playing outside and of course eating! Julie and the girls helped us to make a nice dinner. As things wind down, I thought I would take a moment to update this page.
Jenny is doing well. The diaphragmatic pacing has been harder this week, as she has had a cold. We have had a lot more muscular movements (not controlled) in the last week or so. These include Jenny's legs randomly going up and down, usually while she is driving in her chair (making it look like she is trying to scoot people out of the way!). They are different from the spasms, as they are slow smooth movements. Jenny usually looks at them in wonder and laughs, but those movements, combined with the spasms and range of motion have really kept Jenny's muscles working.
I have contacted restorative therapies (http://www.restorative-therapies.com), to purchase a RT - 100 bike for Jenny to use at home. These are the same bikes that she used at Shepherd Center. I have not yet found a Phys Therapy group in town that has a lift or hoyer to move Jenny from her chair. I feel strongly that the bike will help with the spasms, and it is time to look at getting one.
The "new" van has arrived, and we have been busy using it. Jenny has gotten out with both me and the girls, as well as with Julie and Sara. She has gotten to resturants, shopping and the mall. The van is very nice, and it looks like we may be able to use the EZ-Lock system that is at the front passenger seat. We will need the adapter added to Jenny's wheelchair. The van seems a little bigger, and taller then the ones that we rented, and we fit nicely within it.
Again, I want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. I am thankful for all of the love, prayers, support and help that our family has been given. Thank you so much.
