A year ago, continued... On Wednesday of this week a year ago we finally got to go home! The kids had made "welcome home" signs and a welcome home cake for us. It was quite overwhelming going home with boxes of medical supplies. Before we went home (I think if was actually on Monday or Tuesday), Jedrek had a nose tube put in in order to give medication. At three and a half months old, he did not like the idea of getting medication several times a day by mouth through a syringe, so this nose tube would give us some peace of mind. Jedrek's daily care included neutrophos (an oral medication given through his ng tube in his nose) three times daily, bactrim (an antibiotic) given three times a day on the weekends, daily flushing of the central lines, daily neupogen shots, and weekly dressing and cap changes of the central line. We were glad to be home, but knew a lot lay ahead of us. This is the last of the "a year ago" updates as this caringbridge site was started on Thursday of that week a year ago (August 9 last year). Writing this out has been very helpful for me in processing all we went through this past year. If you have stuck by and read it, maybe you learned something (or maybe you are just overwhelmed as I was). Regardless, it is what it is and I am glad that we are where we are. Joy of the day: Anniversaries past...
