Jayden’s Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most.

In addition to this site we will have a donation site set-up soon to help with all the financial burdens of a medical situation that will require some adjustments to life.  Or if you would like to donate in Jayden's name to an organization directly please see our Resources page for some sites that we find important.

Jayden is a Happy, Handsome, Amazing 4 year old boy whose world changed in a matter of weeks.  He is the toughest kid I have ever met.  He was experiencing severe back pain for over 6 weeks and was brought to Kaiser San Francisco for an MRI on May 16th 2013.  We got a call that he needed to be transferred to Kaiser Oakland as soon as possible as they found some tumors in his spine and pelvis and we needed to do more testing.  After 3 Xrays, a CT scan, 2 MRIs, 2 Biopsies, a spinal tap, 3 IV lines and and many many blood tests, he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) with Lymphomatous features.  He has cancer in his blood stream and has 3 tumors- 2 on his spine between L2 and L4 and one on his pelvis. One of the tumors on his spine has grown into it, obstructing his spine, making walking, standing and sitting very painful.  We are hoping that the chemo will quickly shrink this tumor, so the pain subsides.  He will have to wear a back brace to protect his spine as the tumor shrinks leaving a gap in his bone.  He will need to wear this brace until his bone grows back.  We are hoping that with the advanced oncology treatments and amazing oncology team he can get through this!

I am so bad at updating this site. I do almost daily updates on Facebook but forget that not everyone has access to it. Jayden has been one tough little boy. In the last few months he has had 2 hospitalizations with fevers. He has another fever right now which we are keeping an eye on, hoping it doesn't go up and require another hospitalization. Anytime his temp goes up to 101.5 its an automatic hospitalization. I'm sure over the next 3 years of treatment we will have lots of these. He has an MRI next week to check on the back tumors, I am so nervous of this as the last MRI showed no change. I am hoping that putting him at high risk with stronger chemo treatments was the answer to fighting the tumors, as they are a rare presentation of Leukemia. When Jayden is feeling good he is doing great. He has began to walk again, getting up to play a lot. I love seeing him play and enjoy life again. I try to let him be a kid as much as I can as so much of his life is not what a kid should know. I will give a better update next week when we hear about the MEI results.
