Journal entry by Ken Shapiro —
Mostly, no news is good news. Jamie's continuing to take it easy and won't go back to subbing at school for another month or so. She had a two-week follow-up with her surgeons this week, had her staples taken out, and was told she shouldn't lift anything over 20 pounds for another two weeks. To me, it shows progress that she's amenable to those terms. She's had some back pain return, which is either an indicator that the fibroid was not the original cause or that she simply needs more time to heal. Her hernia site has been a little painful as well, but the doctor says that's normal, as the skin needs time to grow over the mesh patch he applied on the hole in her abdominal wall.
Bottom line is that her recovery's gone smoothly enough and the boys and I have been self-sufficient enough that Jamie's mom headed back to Florida today. Her presence and support have been invaluable, but we're all comfortable moving ahead on our own. Nevertheless, there are still plenty of opportunities for meal deliveries (thanks to everyone who's already participated!). Don't forget to sign up on the Planner.
Much obliged.
