Today is Bella's birthday! Seems like just yesterday that our world was turned upside down by the arrival of this incredible young lady who has inspired us in ways we never imagined. We are so proud of who she has become and cannot imagine where her journey in life will take us next. Despite her challenges she has faced every obstacle head on and shown us that size doesn't matter when you have the heart of a champion. Happy NINTH birthday Bella! And here's to many, many more to come!
We spent the entire weekend celebrating LIFE with Bella and her friends. On Saturday morning, Bella and her soccer team pulled out an awesome 2 to 1 win during their first game of the season. Shortly after, we picked up a couple of Bella's best friends and headed to Stonefire Pizza for an afternoon of delicious food (they even made a special gluten free pizza for Bella), fun games and exciting rides. Saturday evening her friends spent the night so we could get up bright and early to drive to Chicago. We spent all day at the Museum of Science and Industry before returning home this evening, exhausted, and thoroughly partied out.
Bella has been a fighter since the day she was born and each day she is happy and healthy is a reason to celebrate. Birthdays however call for extra special celebration given her diagnosis and prognosis. The average life expectancy of someone with Fanconi Anemia is just 24 years. We will do everything in our power to make sure Bella has many more birthdays than that, but just in case, we are going to make every single birthday a memorable and incredible experience for Bella.
