Here is what I know....The CPT-11 and Avastin has been approved by insurance. Isaac is scheduled to have surgery to have a port placed on July 10th. Chemo will start soon after. Possible the same day if Isaac is feeling ok or the following week.
I talked to Dr. Gates about my concerns about the chemo (mainly the port issue). He thinks Isaac needs the port (Children's knows all about Isaac's veins). He said it will likely work this time as it is unusual for a port not to work. He said that as long as it flushes, Isaac can get chemo through it and we can do blood draws the normal way if there is problems with the port. He has given Avastin to kids before (another worry - since this is a new chemo for kids, did they have experience with it). Good to know that they do. Dr. Gates told me to think about it over the weekend. Everything is set up and approved for CPT-11 & Avastin but if I want to switch Isaac over to an oral chemo they will. They do advise we do this chemo though. I think we will do the chemo. I just need to get over the emotional hump and get Isaac over it too.
I hope everyone has a nice, relaxing weekend. I think I will spend much of it in our little pool.
Happy 4th of July!
