Ike’s Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most.

Ike was admitted to the ICU at the University of Washington Medical Center on Monday, October 22nd.  He had severe pneumonia and was having trouble breathing.  He had a ventilator inserted on Tuesday the 23rd.  The ventilator is breathing for him and he is receiving strong antibiotics and sedatives. Please pray the pneumonia will clear and he can begin breathing on his own.

We're Home!

Ike WALKED out of the University of Washington yesterday (Friday) morning!  He was up, showered, dressed and ready to go at 7am!  In fact, the nurses and doctors thought we'd flown the coop when we went to the hospital coffee shop early Friday morning. All posters and clothing had been taken down and loaded into the car before we went to get coffee. When they came by to go over our discharge papers we were nowhere to be found.  We heard our names over the hospital intercom and scurried back to the room! They looked a bit panicked when we came around the corner with coffee in our hands. Oops...should have left a note on the bed.

Ike had his first breakfast as a free man at the local McDonald's.  He refused to eat in the hospital and insisted on his favorite...a sausage burrito!  After greeting friends at Snohomish High School he headed home to the glorious comfort of his own bed, his dogs, cats and all things warmly familiar.

We consider Ike's recovery a gift from God and humbly thank Him for restoring Ike to us. Your kind hearts, fervent prayers and gifts of food and thoughtfulness touched us deeply. It is clear to us that we are surrounded by a community of people that love deeply and give freely.

This will be our last entry but not our last recollection of God's faithfulness to us and your love for us!

Your family,
Steve, Kay, Josh, Jake and Ike Ditzenberger
