I did not know Hugh, but I have the pleasure of working with his niece, Alissa. Certainly from what Alissa has told me, Hugh was a wonderful man.

Though we only met a few times, it was easy to see how much joy surrounded your family, and what a big part of that Hugh was.  I wish you the best in carrying on that spirit, remembering the best ways he helped your lives. I'm very sorry for your loss, so early in life.

My sincerest apologies to the entire Berning clan.  Such a shock to everyone and I am still in disbelief! I am praying for strength and courage to get you all through this tough time! There really aren't any words that could make it any better! Just know that you are surrounded with love and prayers!! I am sorry I cannot make it to the services, I so wish I could pay my respects... Hugh had a kind heart, and there were no such things as strangers to him, just friends and family he hadn't met yet! I am blessed for even having the chance of meeting him! Thank you Kara and Adam for that opportunity!

    With love,

    To the Hugh Berning family,

I am shocked and deeply saddened at Hugh's passing.  I was talking with him in the parking lot Monday after work on July 9th.  He was cheerful and upbeat about his new position with ATS.  Hugh and I started out in the Mfg engineering organization together at Allison's many years ago.  He was always positive and had a creative mind.  I appreciated knowing him and working with him.

I can only hope and pray that God will gather all of Hugh's family in his arms to comfort and encourage at this time and in the days and months ahead.

As Chuck and I were in the ER Tuesday morning...His nurse said, " I'll be right back, I have an ambulance I need to check on" Then to run into your dad and find out Hugh was the patient was heart wrenching. I have prayed for his recovery since. I have many fond memories of Hugh dating back from the Wanamaker days!  He was just an all around awesome person! My thoughts and prayers are with you and the family now. I'm so sorry for your loss. Heaven has a real angel now. Rest in peace Hugh....the world has lost a great man. You will be missed!
