My Story

This is Hayley's story about how she became deaf, and very quickly re-joined the hearing world through the miracle of a Med-El Pulsar cochlear implant......

I know, I know, I am a LAZY journal keeper!!!! One day I will get better about it..... or maybe one day I will finally start that blog I've been meaning to make and then I will make everyone go to one place for family information..... So anyway, Hayley is doing great!!! Its been over two months with her new Med-El OPUS 2 processor and she has come a long way in a short time!!! Its funny that you don't realize that something in life was lacking until you have something better..... This is definitely better. There is a lot more singing, and talking in our house. And more quiet. Hayley is starting to become a lot more reserved than she used to be. I think its because there is more understanding, less confusion and better quality of sound. She is relying more actually on focusing on my mouth when I give her new words because she really wants to hear and say them right from the start. Its rare that I have to repeat a new word more than a few times before it is perfectly, permanently implanted in her brain.
On the FM system note..... we will get it eventually when everyone gets it together and orders it!!! I did all the necessary paperwork and got the necessary audiogram to get it!!! Speaking of which, her audiogram went great!!!!! You know I'm not a fan of testing, but I liked this one!!! She's hearing 10db at 1000hz, which is GREAT!!!!! Its like a whisper in a noisy room to translate that into terms that those who arent familiar with hearing loss can understand..... Yay!!!! So excited about that!!!!
We're heading to med-El worldwide headquarters in two weeks to do more photos for them and a user video. I can't wait!!!! They already use Hayley in a few things, but those pictures are already like a year old!! I cant wait to see older Hayley in stuff!!!! I hope that they will continue to use her as she grows up; that is assuming that they people in the States think that she's as cute as the people in Europe do!!!!
