Six months ago today our beautiful daughter entered her eternal rest safe in the arms of Jesus. I wish I had words to describe the depths of the emotions we have encountered since then. Hannah Grace was such a precious child. Since her birth she brought such joy and happiness to us as well as those she encountered. She is missed. We still have good days and bad days, but through it all God has been with us carrying us through the long days.
I know it has been a while since I updated, but the holidays were tough to get through. We did what we could to start new traditions and make it special for Chandler. A lot has happened over the past few months. I graduated from college, Chandler started pre-K, and a new year has begun. It is strange going from having your mind pre-occupied with studying, writing papers, and schoolwork to endlessly searching for a job. Full-time student sounds a lot better than unemployed, but I know that God has the right job for me. Please pray that the right door would open soon.
During December we had a Hat & Blanket drive for the foundation. One of our junior board members came up with the idea to have the drive to give them out to the children on 4 Tower at Children's. We took in over 100 blankets and close to 100 hats. On MLK day we traveled to Birmingham and with the help of some great friends were able to hand them out to 4 Tower, 5 NW, Stem Cell, and NICU. At the end it didn't even look like we had given anything out. We donated the remainder of the blankets to the Child Life Department at Children's Hospital.
It was an honor to be able to give back to the families that are going through such a hard journey. I remember vividly the days that drag on in the hospital. The rooms get smaller by the day and it can be a lonely place. The doctors and nurses are great, but to be able to take a moment and possibly put a smile on the kids faces is a blessing.
We are working on some fundraisers coming up for the foundation later on in the year. In the meantime we have bracelets, decals, t-shirts, and calendars for sale with all proceeds going to families that have children with childhood cancer. The calendars are for the 2011 year that feature one child per month and tells their story of battling childhood cancer. If you are interested in purchasing any of the items above e-mail me at email@example.com. Our goal is to help families financially with gift cards, gas cards, payment of bills, housing, and other ways needs may arise. Please consider donating or purchasing one of these items.
Pray for the many families that are still in this fight...Taylor Hendrix, Bayleigh Phillips, Noah Crowe, Sadie Long, and the list goes on and on.
Marci, Chandler, and I take each day as it comes. I wish I knew what God has in store for us, but we just look to Him for direction and comfort when we need it. Chandler told Marci this morning on the way to school that he had a dream that he was flying around. He said he saw Hannah Grace in Heaven dancing and playing. He still prays for her every night and still asks about her almost every day. He told God the other night that he was thankful for taking care of Hannah Grace and to please let her come back home to play with him. We talked about that and how she couldn't come to us, but one day we could go to Heaven to play with her.
It is heartbreaking to think that this time last year we were through with radiation, Hannah Grace was in school, and our life was much different. I think of all the times I took for granted having her here and being able to do the small things like playing puzzles with her, making her lunch, or watching a cartoon. I say that to remind those of you that still follow us and read this to make every moment precious. None of us are promised tomorrow.
