Hello, One day at a time... Well, we made an unexpected trip back to the St. Jude Clinic late this afternoon (Thurs.). Haley has had a low grade fever since Tues. early evening. This afternoon it reached 100.4 and the outside of her right eye was red and hurting. Not to mention that her throat was sore today so she did not eat or drink anything. We called the Clinic at 3:00 and the doctor asked us how quick we could get to Peoria. We told him 4:00 knowing that the Clinic closed at 4:30. We left by 3:15 and pulled into the parking deck at 3:55. That is a world record for us!! Of course by the time we got to the Clinic Haley's temperature was 98.9!!!!! However the doctor looked her over and started her on an IV antibiotic as a precaution. The redness and soreness around her eye is due to the fact that Haley's ANC is still only 100. Her body doesn't have many white blood cells to fight off any kind of infection. The chemo is killing off any fast growing cells which include cells in the mouth. So she also has mouth sores that go all the way through her system to her bottom. So now we have cream for that. Haley would have been admitted to the hospital today if they would have had a bed available. Can you believe that there were no beds available?? Something must be going around!!! It is better that we got to go home I am thinking!! Haley was thrilled that she did not get admitted. However, if she gets worse overnight (temp of 101.5 or greater) then we have to take her to the emergency room in Peoria. Pray that we don't have to do that. The doctor wants Haley back in the Clinic tomorrow morning for more antibiotics. (Obviously Haley won't be starting that 10th round of chemo tomorrow like they were hoping.) Haley is supposed to have physical therapy at 9:00. I will have to see how she feels. She is progressing so well with therapy that I don't want her to miss it. Usually this Methotrexate chemo does not make Haley's ANC drop so low but they said as her body gets more rounds of chemo the bone marrow has a harder time recovering. So we may be going through this after every chemo!! It is going to take Haley forever to get through her next 9 rounds of chemo!!!!!!! Please pray that Haley's fever does not spike up. Please pray that her body can handle these next rounds of chemo. Please pray for me and our entire family. My nerves are about shot and all of the worrying is about to kill me. Haley keeps saying, "Mom, don't worry about me." Oh, the innocense of a child!! Cathe
