I always aim to give quick updates but that never happens! I'm too long-winded:
Pete is still loving his job in the ED. He works 7 nights on and then 7 off. It took a little while to get used to that, but I think things are going well now. We missed him horribly as we were getting adjusted. Those 7 days off in a row are wonderful though!!
All the kids are doing well in school. Schedules are very different right now while I'm in school and I've had to turn a lot over to Pete. He's capable, but I'm such a control freak....and that's all I'm going to say! lol!! All the kids are enjoying their Co-Op classes this year and I'm thankful for that. NIk is in 10th grade, Jake's in 8th and Belle is in 3rd.....gone are the days that I could multi-level teach! When they were younger, I could teach a topic and vary the assignments based on their level....not anymore! They are growing up fast!!
School is going well for me, too. I've been wondering when something would trigger my Gus grief at school...I figured it would happen sometime soon since it had not happened yet. Well, last week the lab teacher taught us how to place ng tubes and he talked a lot about people with GI issues. He is a brand new teacher....he was teaching his second lecture....right before class he had mentioned that he was nervous about teaching....so I did everything I could do to NOT cry. That's not my normal response...I decided a long time ago to cry when I needed to cry but I just thought how horrible it would be to be a new teacher and have someone right in front of me breakdown and cry?! lol!! I sit on the front row (because I'm old and can't hear or see! lol!) so he would have certainly seen me. I'm not sure what he taught that night because I was praying that I would make it through...and I did but only because God carried me. So heres hoping I don't have to place an ng tube in any of you, right?! lol!! I imagine my upcoming Pediatrics class will be a doozy for me....I think I'll just go ahead and meet with my professor prior to starting the class.
I start my clinical in two weeks. I can place a foley catheter, change a wound dressing, give shots, give meds, position clients, etc...with my instructor or RN there with me. By the end of the semester I will be Nurse Intern which is another name for a CNA who is a nursing student. I'm going to try to get a PRN job in Labor & Delivery...I know of a position opening up right as I will be applying. I also know the right people in the department so hopefully that will happen! lol!! Knowing people is not a guarantee, but it certainly doesn't hinder things!
I hope all of YOU are doing well. As always, we'd love to hear from you!!
