Today Victoria and I went to Shiloh Horse Rescue today to do some volunteer work. We were able to meet one of the owners of the rescue (it's owned by Tony Curtis' wife and her mom - we met the mom). Victoria and I groomed 5 horses and met some of the other volunteers. They have carrots available to feed the horses, so we would give them carrots after we groomed them. In addition to the horses, they also have pot belly pigs, a llama, goats, and burros roaming around. They even have some mini dwarf horses. Hearing the stories of those two dear creatures is heart breaking. They are bred to be very tiny, but it usually causes them to have deformities. Both of them have deformed feet, and one of them is missing a sinus. One of them was destined to be fed to leopards when she was born and it was discovered she was deformed. But Shiloh was able to rescue her. She is the sweetest little horse. After we groomed a couple of the horses, we were giving them some carrots. There were some goats in the pen, so I gave a piece of carrot to one of them. He made it clear that he wanted another piece, but I wanted to give it to one of the horses. When I gave it to the horse instead of the goat, the goat head-butted me! And he had some HUGE horns! I turned away from him, and he did it again! It hurt! I had run out of carrots, and I didn't want the goat to head-butt me again, so I got out of the pen as quickly as I could without running. I didn't want him to run after me and get a running start on butting me! So the moral of the story is, make sure you have enough carrots for the goats and get out of the pen *before* you run out of carrots. LOL! We both had a lot of fun, and we are looking forward to doing this again. Grace and Seth want to go now, too. So I guess I will sign them up for the horsemanship class they offer. This is a very good experience for Victoria, and I'm sure it will be for Grace and Seth, too. Love, Kathy
