Geraldine (Gerri) Knutson's Journal
Monday February 3rd

Gerri is getting along pretty good. She still has a nurse and therapist stop in each week. Her leg is still giving her lots of problems with swelling and is pretty painful at times. She gets discouraged and I have to give her a pep talk to get her back in the positive mode. She is using her cane more and uses her walker when going outside. Next Monday will be her first cataract surgery. In the meantime, John is keeping her busy with playing dice and putting puzzles together. The last puzzle they finished measures 3 feet in length.
Sunday, January 19th
Written Jan 19, 2014 5:23pmGerri had her splint taken off on Friday. She is unable to lift anything heavier than a cup of coffee or pencil and paper with that arm. The pain is letting up. Next is two cataract surgeries. One on Feb. 10th and the other on Feb 17th. The Orthopedic doctor said she might go home in a couple of months, but they will decide when for sure. We made a visit to her house today and spent the afternoon at Cheryll and Barry's.
Update on Gerri's surgery
Written Jan 10, 2014 12:41pmGerri had her surgery yesterday. We got there at 4:30 a.m. and didn't get home until after 2:00 p.m. Needless to say, I was totally exhausted from not much sleep. The surgery was successful. The surgeon was able to take some new bone that had been growing and fill in the area with it. Hopefully, it will work. She was in a lot of pain this morning and seemed to have a temp. The nurse came at 9:00 a.m and took her temp. It was 99.9 so under 100. Then she took it again a little later and it was 99.4 so at this point, we won't have to take her back to the clinic. She was told to elevate her arm above her heart to see if that helps with the pain. Will keep you posted.
