Erin Yard Shippert's Journal
Written Aug 26, 2013 10:20pmWell August has been a crazy busy month. Sorry for not keeping up with the updates, we've been on a couple trips and between chemo, vacation, and catching up around home it's been a busy summer. I'm still wondering where June and July went!
Since the last update we had a nice break from treatment and "our new normal." We went on a nice 4-day vacation with friends to a spa in the Dells and also to downtown Chicago. We had massages and spa treatments, seen a musical, went on a dinner cruise, and had an awesome time with friends. It was the perfect little getaway before our trip to Houston for our checkup. We traveled straight from Chicago down to Houston for the big news. Erin's treatment is working! All of her lesions in her liver are shrinking as we'll as her tumor in the pancreas. Her blood count was also extremely positive. Of course we were thrilled to hear the news. You could tell the doctors were extremely pleased with the results.
So from here forward, we will maintain the same course of action we have been doing. She will get treatment every two weeks until we get another follow up scan in November. She definitely is not looking forward to more chemo, but at least now we have direction and know that all the effort and pain is for a purpose and good things are to follow. We are still a very long way from getting out of the woods, but at least we are traveling down the right path.
Once again I just want to thank everyone for all the thoughts and prayers. Truly God is great and the power of prayer is the best medicine of all.
Written Aug 7, 2013 12:47pmRound 5 is almost in the books. Erin did pretty good throughout this treatment. As usual she was pretty tired and was dehydrated and nauseas during treatment. This time we had Reagan staying at our friends place during treatment. They kept sending pictures and videos of her which helped Erin. She was missing her pretty bad. We will be heading home this afternoon and can't wait to see our little munchkin. This weekend will be full of cookouts and should be able to get out and about for some fun activities this weekend.
Both of us are impatiently waiting to get down to MD Anderson in two weeks to see what kind of progress there is and what treatment is going to be in the future. The hardest part almost is not knowing what the future will bring. Take each day as it is and keep movin' on.
Written Jul 31, 2013 11:02pmSorry everyone its been a while since my last post. Its been a pretty hectic last couple weeks with Erin's 4th round of treatment, 4-H Fair, and family coming home from out of state. Things are starting to slow down a little bit before we have treatment again starting next week again.
Erin's 4th round of treatment went very well. Seems like the nausea med change that happened during the 3rd round is working well. However, she is still getting pretty nauseous during and immediately after treatment.
After her fourth round of treatment we headed home to help out with the various activities at the 4-H. I am on the fair board and was busy the entire weekend with track prep duties and running the mud bogs. Erin helped out Thursday evening with the Young Leader cookout and brought Reagan out Friday and Saturday to the fair. Erin has been able to keep her energy level up enough to be able to most of anything she wants to, but she still needs time during the day to rest and either take a nap or relax for a little while.
Looking forward we are going to have a couple days to catch up on work at home and running errands. This weekend promises to be a busy one with friends visiting, Young Leader "Pack the Truck" Food Drive, and another mud bog on Sunday for me to attend. First thing Monday morning will start 5th round of chemo treatment. Two weeks after that is our appointment in Houston at MD Anderson to see how treatment is working.
