Happy 10th Birthday!
Escrito el Nov 28, 2013 11:16amNovember 28th - HAPPY 10th BIRTHDAY ERIN!!!
What a day that truly reflects our life....Thanksgiving Day and Erin's 10th Birthday!
We cannot say thank you enough to all of you for your love, support and prayers. It is just a beautiful day and I feel like it was just meant to be. Our little lady is certainly our reason for thanks and celebration today.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. We hope you have a terrific day and feel as blessed as we do.
Lots and lots of love and thanks,
Kevin, Jeni, Annie, Erin and Mary
Another great checkup and surprise!
Escrito el Oct 27, 2013 10:50amOctober 27th - Erin went down for her checkup on Friday and her blood work showed nothing but BEAUTIFUL counts!
Each time the appointment rolls around the nerves start taking over at our house. Even though she looks so good and feels so good, we are not quite ready to face those results, but also cannot wait to get them over with. We know it is either she is healthy or she is not.
This time, through a smile and tears, I was able to send Kevin the wonderful results...along with the text "Merry Christmas!" Why? Because this was the last appointment until then. She will not go back for another 8 weeks, which will be December 27th. YAHOO!!!
We did talk about some of the things Erin is dealing with these days. She is incredibly stiff - putting on socks and pants, putting on and tying shoes, for example, are tough tasks for our girl. She went to basketball yesterday and I noticed she has a really hard time with the overhead passing as well.
It seems that her joints may be dealing with a little Graft vs. Host Disease (GvHD). This is "good" because GvHD is also looked at as graft vs. leukemia, but "we want to be careful what we wish for" (as Linda says) because we do not want too much of this.
The good thing is her stiffness does seem to get better. The beginning of the soccer season had Erin moving or running robotic-like across the field. It looked like it was hard for her to run. By the end of the season her strides showed her to be a little smoother. She is taking horseback riding lessons each week with a FABULOUS therapeutic riding instructor, an awesome jazz class every Friday, and as soccer ended she is picking up basketball. We also plan to start her on yoga through the Wii at home. Lots of different things rolling to get her through this.
A super surprise is that Dr. Jeff Auletta was in town this past weekend, so Erin had a visit with him! What a wonderful thing we are able to do!!! Jeff, his wife and kids are just such terrific people and we feel right at home hanging out with them. It feels like no time has passed at all...we haven't missed a beat. We all just pick up right where we left off. He is an amazing man, doctor and friend. HIs wife is just as incredible and their kids are an absolute BLAST!!! We are lucky people.
Lots of things happening now...Halloween (a family favorite here), Erin's 10th birthday ON Thanksgiving Day, Mary's 3rd birthday, and Christmas! All dreams come true for us with 3 healthy, happy kids.
Thank you all for your continued love, thoughts and prayers. Each day is a treasure and we know it.
Clear Counts AGAIN!!
Escrito el Aug 27, 2013 9:25pmAugust 27th - Kevin took Erin down for her checkup this morning and she had clear counts again!! Thank God and thanks to all of you for your prayers.
I know that it seems like we are getting back to life - and we are! - but these appointments still make me very nervous. Especially when Erin complains of pain here and there. She did receive 5 shots last Thursday as she is on the road to catching up on vaccinations. (Remember, she is like a newborn baby here. Any vaccines she previously had have been totally wiped out as she now has a new immune system thanks to her AMAZING HERO DONOR!) So those shots left her with a big and painful knot...of course I worried. She also had a few other complaints that made my heart skip a beat or two. I keep thinking and hoping that these appointments will get easier to handle. Maybe someday they will.
So today we just "bought" 8 more weeks of "normal" life! Her next appointment isn't until October 25th. She had her dad schedule it at 8AM so she can get to school as soon as possible. This is a chick who doesn't like getting up in the morning, but she will for school. She LOVES it!
We were told today that her liver is doing great and all immune studies done are NORMAL! "The kid has a well functioning immune system..." WOW. It felt like Christmas getting that news. Just awesome.
Thank you to all of you for your continuous love, support, thoughts and prayers. We are still going strong - even in my moments of weakness. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for lifting us up. Please continue to pray for Erin and all those suffering and battling for and through their lives.
With much love xoxoxoxo
