Our beautiful daughter Emma Christine Sinford was born December 30th 2002. Emma, our youngest daughter, was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis when she was just 3 1/2 months old.

Emma is our wild child with an abundance of energy and love for life. Our hardest job is just letting our girls be normal kids, no holding back, never saying you can't. We are truly blessed!

Hello hello hello!!!

UGH!!!!!!!!!!! ok, now that I've got myself under control. So the last time I blogged I was hopeful we were getting ready to go home. BUT... that didn't happen. So trying to give you the short story, (but you know how I LOVE to ramble).

So before we headed out, Emma's needle had to be changed, (as per protocol, once a week) and wouldn't you know it...it wouldn't draw back. (not good) so here is home health dropping off supplies, resident is doing paperwork etc etc and we are stuck. So in comes the TPA (stuff they use to unclogg your central line) and that doesn't work. Next came a 'dye study' which we found out there was a clot at the end of the catheter. One thing led to another and we were shipped upstairs to IMU, which is now decidedly our most NOT wanted place to visit again, for a study that they no longer do at our hosptial but no one bothered to ask the staff up there. Again we are stuck....all of our crap up there with us. Emma is now hooked up to leads etc and we are not feeling the love. I greeted our Resident at 6am with everything back into the wagon to move back down stairs....telling him to get us out of there, that IMU is creepy and we would rather not stay any longer even if that meant giving up the GIGANTIC room we were staying in...and it was huge. But Emma and I don't care about space...we want to go back home to med/surg...immediately. It takes him a couple more hours, but we arrive happily...GLEEFULLY even, back to our beloved Med/Surg floor. Docs decide that the port must be changed out (someone mentioned trying to ethanol locks to get it work....where did that come from??) I agree to surgery...the resident says ummmm surgery scheduled for Tuesday coming up (this is now Saturday). He will get back to me with a time from the surgeon. Resident comes back with 5pm surgery time, I ask him to check again, he sends another Resident to 'confirm' with me that 5pm is the surgery time. I 'confirm' with the other poor 'messenger' resident (because my resident is too scared to tell me it's on for a time I DO NOT WANT) that our Resident is expected to provide puppet show from 2 - 2:30pm for my 5 yr old who will be NPO starting midnight 'just in case' an earlier time opens up. (By the way, the resident does produce a puppet show....I think he's still scared of me). A few other residents provide new jokes for Emma to learn (ask her and she will tell you....) and one resident did a dance...remember the 'running man' from the 90's oh yeah...it takes a village to keep said 5yr old from having MAJOR melt down. Surgery goes fine, we are released to go home Wednesday......

Will tell more tomorrow...
