hello, elissa sent this earlier in the week to friends in portland---and we thought others would like to see it, too. all the best, martiHey Portland People—Sending out an email to give you an update and ask for some help.As most of you know, I’m no longer teaching—I’m on long term disability.Generally, I’m feeling good. I’ve been spending a lot of time in coffee shops, reading a ton, and writing. But I’ve gotten to the point where my doctors agree that I need regular, consistent support. I’m in the process of looking into selling my house and moving into a more manageable apartment. Some time this month, my sister Em and her boyfriend Jeff are going to move Ollie (my dog) in with them in Seattle. I’m walking with a cane now and can’t walk him as much as I’d like, so this seems like a good move.I've been getting a ton of support from friends, neighbors, and family. My mom's been coming out regularly from Minnesota and going to lots of doctor appointments with me.The doctors say I need more of a “safety net.” So I’m going to ask if people can volunteer to spend a couple hours with me one day a week, and my friend Megan and my Aunt Marti going to put together a schedule. Some of things that we might ask people to sign up for include: making dinner with me, having dinner with me, having breakfast with me, taking me shopping (groceries, etc.), taking me to appointments (doctors, etc.), and just spending time with me. This list might expand or change as time goes on, but basically we all agree I need someone to be checking in on me daily. If you have questions or if you would be willing to sign up for some time with me (probably every other week), there is now a CareBridge site and supportplanner. You can also always email me, marti (email@example.com) or Megan (firstname.lastname@example.org).Thanks in advance for your help.Love,Elissa
