Our Gratitude
Thank you Regina Hogsten for authoring this site.
My family and I would like to thank everyone for their encouraging messages and prayers in the last several weeks. It has been a wonderful blessing for my children to see how many people their dad touched, challenged, and encouraged in his lifetime. They were used to sharing him with other kids, and now they see the fruits of his work. I am especially thankful for all the expressions of kindness to Nic in his last days on this earth. He was truly overwhelmed by the love of Christ. He could never quite understand why so many people were reaching out to him. I do understand why they would, though. Nic was a compassionate person who touched many lives. He was also a servant. Every Saturday morning for twenty-three years he got out of bed at six o’clock to get fields ready, or set up chairs in a gym, stock the concession stand, or whatever it took for a day at CAA to go smoothly. He was also there at ten at night to turn off lights, put away chairs, or pick up the last piece of trash. He would take time to talk to you if you were five or eight-five.
One of the last requests he spoke Thursday was to ask a friend to go talk to two homeless guys he had been ministering to at St. Tim’s. Nic would let these guys do a little work on the field in exchange for a sandwich. He loved to share his faith with them. He wanted them to know what happened to him, and that he was going to be with the Lord. His love had no social boundaries.
Nic truly was the man he appeared to be. He was the same whether he was teaching Sunday School, leading youth group, raking a field, or at home with his family. What a blessing it was to be his sweetheart for twenty-four years.
