Psalm 139:13-14 “Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother's womb. I thank you, High God—you're breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made!”
Every new parent marvels at the workmanship of God. Truly it is breathtaking to gaze at your newborn and view each finger, toe, earlobe, fold of skin, pink lips, kissable cheeks. A marvelous gift to us each one is indeed. For nearly five months now we have been praying for Drew to be healed from head to toe, for each cell, neuron, the brain stem, the muscles, every piece of him to be repaired. I have seen the evidence of God at work in Drew. I am reminded that God shaped up first inside. I know that He has been working on every aspect of Drew’s brain. God and God alone can fix Drew’s injury. I feel that we have been given a sign or a seal as was often the case in Old Testament times that God’s healing Drew because now on the outside Drew is showing that he is growing. He will be thrilled that he is about 6’1” now. (Prior to Feb. 22nd Drew was about 5’10” tall) God has now shaped him on the outside. I feel it is a confirmation that He is taking care of the inside and He is proving it by evidence on the outside. Everyone who sees him will know that Drew is growing, his muscles, tendons, and bones and of course his brain connections. We don’t always receive that confirmation but I am so happy we have been given this one and Drew is going to need all new jeans when he is ready to start wearing something besides shorts everyday! Drew continues to progress everyday. Our dear friends the Molinas were in town yesterday and it was wonderful to see them. It was a bittersweet reminder of the many months they spent with their two sons in recovery and rehabilitation after their serious car wreck. It was an incredible blessing for Mitchell and Blake to work with Drew stretching him in therapy and as they encouraged him in the same ways they had been encouraged in the past. They are all doing fantastic and the entire family is an amazing testimony to God’s power through difficulty beyond human comprehension. Tonight Drew needed to roll over to his stomach for the second set of his exercises. He doesn’t mind to roll over; however, he does not like to be on his stomach. When he got to his stomach he didn’t stop for the exercises he just kept going and rolled all the way back to his back again. It was the first time he had done that! We congratulated him, but he did still have to roll back to his stomach to complete the therapy set. His neck is showing progress in therapy with range of motion. The neck workout is the most difficult piece of therapy he does and it is a challenge that takes a major amount of encouragement to get him through but he is doing it and showing improvement. I know God can do whatever it takes to make that neck strong and get the message from the brain to the muscle to lift the head and I know Drew will do what he needs to do for his part. Kaila’s birthday was Saturday and we had some precious family time at her and Jon’s house for dinner. Drew went with us and his dog went too. Drew seemed right at home at his sister’s new house. He seemed to really show his approval for their home choice. It was a wonderful weekend!
