Hi, you all know me & how much I love being outdoors. I took a bad fall on the ice last week outside the house, Maggie found me when she came home from work. I am in the Critical Care unit of Luther Hospital and am working my hardest to wake up and start recuperating. Send me your prayers and love and keep me in your thoughts

Dick

Forgive my lateness with this update but the last couple of weeks have been pretty busy. Dick is home now and he is doing great. He is so much happier being there (and so am I). It has been a very long haul and there is still much to be done, but we took a little breather and just took it easy at home for the first few days. Dick has continued his rehab at Dove but is down to just 3 days per week. On the other days, his rehab consists of walking the dogs around the back field (great for improving his balance), picking apples, beans, and pears (stretching, bending, and lifting), golfing - yes, golfing! We went to Whispering Pines at Cadott last week. We did not golf a round, but Dick hit an bucket of balls on the range, chipped and putted some. Afterwards, we were in the clubhouse when Frank and his son Dick arrived. It was great to see how much Dick enjoyed seeing his golfing buddies. They gave us a cart and we took a spin around the course to say hi to a couple of his other golfing friends. I think Dick may be sorry that I ever taught fitness classes, my idea of therapy may be a little excentric sometimes. I still maintain that shampooing the carpets is great for improving range of motion - Dick may disagree. The therapists at Dove do all agree that he is doing great. Physical therapy thinks they will be done with him soon. Occupational will work with him a little longer and Speech Therapy (they are the ones who do the work with memory issues) will continue for some time to come yet. Today is my first day back at work and Dick is spending it at Grace Adult Day Services in Altoona. They have a variety of activities to keep him busy (and challenged) and they serve 'gourmet coffee'! As I dropped him off this morning he was already talking to one of the staff who grew up near Evergreen Park where Dick was born. His vision is still causing him difficulties but we have an opthamologist appointment in a couple of weeks - hoping that they can help with the double vision.
As I said though, We are both doing great thanks largely to your prayers and good wishes and a little bit of help from the doctors and nursing staff. Please keep them coming, while the road ahead is no longer as steep as it was, it is still quite long - but the going is easier. I will keep these updates coming although maybe not quite daily.
