Diane’s Story

As many of you know, our son, Dylan, has been diagnosed with a rare cancer called Ewing Sarcoma. We were told about his cancer Wednesday, February 6th. Besides finding out the namce of his cancer, we were also told his cancer is in stage four. After speaking with his doctor, stage four is not as severe in this type cancer as if he was diagnosed with Leukemia. With Ewing Sarcoma, because his tumor originated in the pelvic and has spread to his lungs, stage four means it has spread further from its original location.

Chris and I have decided to partake in a European clinical trial for Dylan's treatment. He is one of 288 subjects in this trial and one of 5 from Carolina Healthcare System. We are hoping with the advancement they have made with this trial,, he's in the best care possible.  His treatment begins with chemotherapy, then radiation (possibly surgery) and back to chemo.

Latest Journal Update

Journey is Almost Over

Dylan had his last surgery Wednesday to remove his port now that his treatments are over.  All went well.  He is now completely de-accessed.

He had another pulmonary test Friday and that too went well.  One part of the test improved and other part of test stayed almost the same, a slight decrease, nothing to worry about.

Looks like he wil be joining his classmates in January, most likely second week.  It all depends when Life Services coordinates with his school.  He'll start part-time and by spring full-time.

Our visits will be decreased quite a bit.  One visit a month for labs, every two months we'll se his doctor and every four months scans.  Not too shabby from when we started.

Wishing each of you a very Merry Christmas.and a wonderful New Year.

Thank you again for all your love and support.  You were our rock and kept us strong through this difficult year.
