Devon Quigley's Journal
If you are patient, God will deliver!
Written 3 hours agoDevo and Charlotte were both blessed with a good night's sleep, so we are very thankful! And today, Devon had a great day, only because Charlotte said that he swallowed a lot today, which of course is encouraging going forward with potential food and liquid intakes through his mouth! As Tiger would say, "it's a all part of the process!" He can't have two good days of swallowing until he has his first! So, each first day is the predecessor for the second day! In other words, we'll take each "minor" blessing, such as a good day of swallowing, and use them as building blocks to future recovery! Just as Jesus is the cornerstone in the life of a believer, small blessings are, too, cornerstones for his physical recovery process! Speaking of cornerstones, or building blocks, friendships, both within the family, and outside, are also very essential to the solid foundation of Devon 's recovery! And today, Devo was blessed by a plethora of family and friends, who undoubtably cheered him up! Cousin Brett, Uncle Paulie Walnuts, Zippy, and I played golf and then went to Chipolte! Devo and Charlotte also came, so it was a family reunion, of sorts! Paul, Brett, and Dev used to go to Chipolte after every time they played, so the reunion had a kind of sweet and sour taste to it! But, in the grand scheme of things, Devo loved every minute of it! Joe Arrigo even crashed the party, who Devo likes a lot ( I don't know why)! And tonight, Dickie Frechette and Elaine came over to visit Devo, and he really enjoyed seeing some photos from his last party at home! Dickie couldn't get over how well Devo looked, stating that " he looks like he could just get out of the chair, and walk!" He does look great, leading me to believe that God has so much more in store for his life! Devo understands his enormous challenges, but also knows that God selected him for this incredible journey, because he trusted in Him, would never give up, and he had the courage and strength to fight for as long as it takes! What a heart, what courage, and what an inspiration he shows! Devo knows his plight, and he also knows into Who's hands his recovery depends! He patiently is awaiting God's supernatural healing powers to return him to normalcy, and because he cannot physically seek his Almighty God, someone has to lead him there! And the Holy Spirit has been sent to do just that!Teach me to do what you want, because you are my God. Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground. ( Psalm 143:10)Devo realizes the mess that he's in, it's true! But he also realizes that The Lord is the only way out! So, as a student, waiting for his teacher to teach him what he wants him to learn, Devo is waiting patiently to learn what Jesus wants him to do! Devo is waiting for The Lord to teach him, and despite not being able to move, the Spirit, himself will lead him onto level ground! In simple terms, we cannot be led astray, no matter what we do or say, because the Spirit has been directed by God to lead us on our spiritual journey! Peace, Dana
Friends for life!
Written Dec 10, 2013 8:21pmHello friends, another setback on the Devo sleep front, but he did sleep three straight hours at about 3a.m. So Charlotte was too pooped to pop, and Devo was caught napping several times during the day! That is the only problem, Devo can catch up on his sleep, but the "getting more like a zombie" Charlotte, cannot! At some point she really needs to let us care for Devon, while she catches some zzz's! But, let's face it, it's only been two years non-stop, so why would she need any rest yet? We had Devo on the therapy table for over an hour, then the tilt table for about 45 minutes, so I'm sure his blood was circulating very well throughout his veins! I keep telling him that he needs to stand more so that his heart gets used to pumping vertically, as opposed to horizontally! I tell him that his heart muscle needs to be strong, so that when he starts playing golf again, he can last forty five holes with me each day! And his eyes shot straight up! Chris Lovely spent about three hours here today with Devo, which, of course, is always good for a laugh! And Joe Arrigo made a nice sausage and pepper dish for us tonight, which was greatly appreciated! Thanks Joey, and Chris!Since I wrote that Devon broke down crying the other night, two guys at the club, Joe Martriano and J.R. both were concerned that their visit made Devon sad! I understand exactly where they are coming from, but don't want the visits to stop! Although no one wants to see him sad, I really think the b.s.'ing about the old times with old friends will give him added incentive to get better! The Lord gives us all ample opportunity to experience every emotion, both happy and sad, and He also gives us the tools, through His gospel, to deal with them! Don't we all have to experience lows in our lives, so that we can appreciate the highs? Devo loves seeing all his friends, actually he NEEDS to see his friends, even if he gets a little melancholy while reminiscing about the good old days, because of the joy he receives being part of those stories? This kid made a lot of friends over the course of his life, AND he still remembers every one of you, so don't for a minute, think that there is any reason that you shouldn't visit! Some friends may ruin you, but a real friend will be more loyal than a brother. ( Proverbs 18:24)I am not casting any aspersions toward my real life brother, Paulie Walnuts, as Devo called him, but this proverb says it all! It's not to say that a brother is not loyal, it's more to say how great the loyalty of a real friend is! And it this time and place, Devo cannot get enough love from his real friends! He needs to know that you haven't forgotten about him! He needs to feel the love! So, J.R., you have proven what a loyal friend you are, don't let a little sadness stop you! Joey, you are a real friend to Devo, and he cries whenever he sees you, but it's not a bad "cry", it's a "I want to be playing golf with you and Arrigo" kind of cry! Not because he's sad, it's because he misses it! And that emotional longing, for a true champion, only serves to act as an incentive, not a deterrent! AND DEVON IS A TRUE CHAMPION! He has no quit in him, and that pleases our Lord! We love you Dev, don't you ever think we don't! Goodnight, Dana
Standing silently, but not alone!
Written Dec 9, 2013 8:16pmAnother fairly good night's sleep was the Lord's gift to Dev and Charlotte last night! And Brenda Melucci showed up and stayed the night with Charlotte, which was a very generous and loving gesture! Charlotte enjoyed their time together, and I'm sure Brenda enjoyed being there with Devo and Charlotte, just the three of them! Next on the agenda was a trip to Amy and Hong, at 11:30 for a full hour of feeling what it's like to be a pin cushion! Devo loved the acupuncture for two reasons! First of all, he knows that it will do some good, and secondly, because the girls are so knowledgable and very upbeat, it's fun being there! Thanks acupuncture angels, we appreciate your love and concern! Then she dragged Devo to a fabric store for about an hour, and then home to our house! When he finally got here, he looked good, well rested, and pretty content! But don't expect too much rest Devo, because your mother has other plans! We went out onto the patio for and hour on the new therapy table, and then after massaging his feet, and slapping his body to get the blood circulating, she put him up on the tilt table! I stayed with him for all his therapies telling him what I thought were the benefits of each position and each therapy, and this kid gets it! He agrees to each new position and any new machine, because he knows it will potentially aid in his recovery! He's still coughing a little, which will always cause a little uneasiness, but for the majority of the time that he was here, HE WAS GOOD! When I watch him take on each new position on each of the tables, I marvel at the fact that he always is willing! It's almost as if he knows that he has to wait on God's timing, and he putting the time to good use! Wouldn't you think that he might be getting tired of waiting? I know I would! But this kid knows something that none of the rest of us knows! It's his personal journey with Jesus, and I truly believe that Jesus has informed Devo of all of His promises, which give Devo plenty of incentive to hang in there!I stand silently before The Lord, waiting for Him to rescue me. For salvation comes from Him alone. Yes, He alone is my Rock, my rescuer, defense and fortress. Why then should I be tense with fear when troubles come? ( Psalm 62:1-2)It sure seems to me that Devo is living this verse! He definitely is standing silently before The Lord! I know that Devo is ready to start speaking when Jesus gives him the signal, but for the time being, he stands silently! God knows his thoughts, so maybe it's not so silent between God and him! But Devo, for absolute certain, is waiting for The Lord to rescue him! We talk about it all the time, so I know this to be true! So, in knowing that The Lord is going to rescue him, why should he ever be tense with fear? Devo knows that he is in deep trouble, but he isn't tense by any measure! I think his comfort is coming from knowing that Jesus will rescue him! And in worldly terms, this buys him all the time that is required to pull off this miracle! As long as Jesus knows that Devo knows, He has all the time in this world to fulfill His promise! Goodnight, Dana
