Making them happy...
Written 1 hour agoHi friends, hope you all had a good day and that you all "practiced" being gooD Christians by going out of your way to be nice to others! I've gotten to the place in my life where my most enjoyment comes from making someone else happy! And it really doesn't take too much! A simple compliment, or even a good natured "jab" at a friend usually evokes a smile or return pleasantries! That's all any of us has to do to create an atmosphere of love! I played in a pro-am out here in California today, and believe me, for the most part, all of the people with which I came into contact, left feeling a little happier! But the real winner was me! I felt great knowing that I improved the day for so many! It is what God calls us all to do! We, actually are third in the spiritual world of God's love! First, of course, is to love God! Second, is to love others as you want to be loved! And third, and by no means last, is to love yourself! As I experienced the happiness in those to which I encountered, I experienced a very interesting phenomenon! Their happiness, of which I was partly responsible, MADE ME HAPPY! I liked the feeling I derived from their pleasure! It is easy to love God, a little harder loving others, and sometimes, extremely difficult to genuinely love yourself! Try being in Christ, and follow His commands pertaining to loving others, and hopefully, you will experience the same phenomenon to which I refer! It feels good to brighten the day, or even the moment of another human being, who just might be going through a tough time! And even if they're not, it still feels good, and you will love yourself for doing it! Don't be discouraged if the person you are trying to cheer up doesn't respond, that's not the point! Just being obedient to our Lord is enough! He will put you where you need to be, just go for it! If we leave the miracle making to The Lord, we will have the time to do the foot soldiering"! And isn't that why we are all here, anyway! The world, and all it's craziness tends to suck us all into trying to be something that we are not! Some of us spend a lifetime under false pretenses! Who are we trying to kid? God knows everything about us, and when we stand before Him in all His glory, the less we have to be ashamed of, or sorry for, the better! We don't have much time, so let's get to it! The Lord loves a cheerful Christian, especially one who spreads the cheer! Doesn't everyone want to please Jesus?Devo had a good day today, swallowing a lot by himself, and more or less making the slow, trudge up the recovery ladder! I know that one day he will look back at all this and say, "why were you all so concerned?" The kid always understated things and downplayed all his successes! And after he recovers fully, I don't expect him to think that was a big deal either! But he will come out of these circumstances much more linked to Jesus, and that's the only important element of the whole miracle! And he has brought us all along with him! Thanks Devo, and thank you Lord! Speaking of thank you, thanks to Paul Parajeckas for visiting Devo tonight! He loves seeing old friends, and Paul certainly is an old one! One of the family, I'd say! I sent he and Devo a picture of his brother, Al, Jim Thorpe, and me at the Pro-Am today, and Devo laughed hysterically! I'm sure he was thinking, "who's the two guys standing with Thorpe!" Devo loved that guy! Goodnight, Dana
What, me worry!
Written Mar 9, 2014 7:38pmHi friends, as I am flying to California, I have had ample time to think! And as I think, human tendencies are to dwell on those things that make us anxious and worry! We, humans are naturally worry warts! I never used to worry about much because life was going pretty well, and the things that I thought I should worry about, I knew I couldn't do anything about! Does that make any sense? I wanted to worry about my kids, but because they were grown, I knew I couldn't do anything about keeping them safe! If I could have put them in a bubble for safety, I probably would have! I never worried about Angie, because we were always together! I definitely never worried about my golf, because it was so much fun and exciting! So basically, I never turned to the wonderful, saving pages of the Bible, because life was the proverbial "bowl of cherries!" And then, tragedy befell the Quigley clan! Our precious Devon suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI)!It's pretty amazing how quickly we seek The Lord when we realize the situation is out of our hands! I turned to The Lord that morning, and haven't stopped since that day! It has been a pretty long and arduous road since then, but not one that hasn't been educational and rewarding! We all have grown so much closer to Jesus, which is truly a remarkable result considering the seriousness of the circumstances! We have certainly learned to pray, and we have learned to trust! Through our faith, we were able to believe all that God has promised! And because of our profound faith, we have experienced the kind of peace and comfort that only God can administer to His people! Now back to worry or not to worry! It says in the New Believers Bible that worry is the advance interest we pay on troubles that seldom come. It is a completely unproductive emotion. God wants to be the first one we turn to in times of worry or crisis! He must be pleased with the Quigleys, because that is the first place we turned! When we do, He promises a special blessing if we do the following four things:1) stop worrying and start praying ( He wants us to pray about everything!)2) tell God your needs ( He already knows, but likes to hear it from us!)3) present your requests with thanks ( thank Him in advance)4) receive God's peace ( we truly have received this promise, and it has allowed us to be patient and enduring during this miracle recovery)These process is not as easy to do, by simply reading these words, and putting them into practice! It takes a lot of conscious thought to get there! Satan and his gang love for us to worry ourselves sick! If we do, we doubt God, and that fortifies the evil one! When an opportunity arises that can provoke worry and fear, we have to go to Jesus first, turn the cause for worry over to Him, and then pray like there is no tomorrow! I promise you (or should I say that Jesus promises you) a peace will come over you like none other that you have ever felt! I know it did for all of us in the Devo camp! Thank you Jesus for Your faithfulness, and Your integrity as You make good every one of Your promises! Peace be to you all, and may Devon know that Jesus, Himself has given us all peace and comfort, and has given it it him too, while he fights the good fight! Thank you, Lord! Dana
We have plenty for which to worship!
Written Mar 8, 2014 7:41pmDevon may have suffered his most boring day ever, today! Nicole is in Vermont, at that polar bear wedding, and there are no CNA's on Saturday, so Devo was subject to every whim of Charlotte! She came up with a beauty today, and poor Devo had to go along! She decided to go down to the Cape (cape cod) and attend an 80th birthday party for someone that I'm sure Devo doesn't have a clue to who she is! I just got off the phone with her, 7:45, and they still aren't home yet! When they do get there, she will have to get him out of the van, into the house, out of his clothes and chair, and into the Funk bed! All by herself! I talked to Devon briefly as they were driving home, and he said he was okay with the trip, but knowing Devon like I do, this day will be counted as one of his least plausible! Good thing the kid has an easy going manner about him!Pastor Shaun had the whole stage to himself tonight at Christ Fellowship! It was his show, and his message! He did an amazing job and delivered an awesome message about the difference between praising and worshipping God for things that we have seen or received, and praising Him for what He has done, and what He will do! In other words, it's not about worshipping Him when we get what we want, but worshipping Him and expecting for Him to give us what we need! As you can see, what we want is not necessarily what we need, but what He gives us is ALWAYS what we need! So many CEO's ( Christmas and Easter Only) Christians, only thank God when they get that for which they prayed or asked! Granted, God wants us to pray for everything, but when our gratefulness is dependent upon whether or not we received it, we have lost the true meaning of being in Christ! We need to worship Him because, as He has promised, He will give to us what we need according to His purpose, not ours! And because He is ever faithful, and totally sovereign, we should rejoice in the fact that we will get exactly what we need! Now if that isn't reason enough to worship His Holy Name, nothing is! Pastor, you taught me yet another lesson tonight! Thank you, Shaun, and thank you Christ Fellowship for allowing Shaun to share his incredible insight with us all! If we need to have reasons to worship Him, here are three! 1) He has forgiven our past. ( Isaiah 43:25),2) Our present is directed by Him ( Psalm 119:133), 3) Our future is determined ( Psalms 16:5, 15:57)! His extraordinary grace to forgive our past should be enough to earn our worship forever! But He also directs our paths by delivering us from evil if we allow ourselves to be guided by His word, and also promises us a future with Him in eternity! If you are waiting to worship and praise His glory until you receive that for which you have prayed, you may be waiting a while! So praise Him now, and praise Him often, because we have so much for which to be thankful! Goodnight, Dana
