My Story

I took David to the doctor's Christmas Eve morning. During the night he had developed a pain in his back and had some trouble breathing. When the doctor listened to his lungs he said David had severe pnuemonia and sent him directly to the emergency room. By 2:00 p.m. they had decided to sedate him and put him on a breathing machine.

Dear Family and Friends;

Sorry I have not posted any updates for so long. I have been busy enjoying and taking care of David. His recovery continues to go very well. He is using the oxygen less and less, is moving around more and more, and he has gained seven pounds already (unfortunately, I have gained a few too--cooking with too much butter and having "just a taste" of the deserts David has requested.) We had our first non-medical outing on Saturday to watch Mannie in a Shakespeare competition for local highschool actors. Mannie and her scene partner placed 2nd. We were very proud, and Mannie was thrilled to have her daddy there routing her on.

Now that David is home, and well on the road to a full recovery, we will say goodbye to making CaringBridge postings. It has been a wonderful, supportive resource to me and all our family to experience all the caring expressed for us through your messages. It helped us through a very scary, dark time.

From DT:

I wanted to thank everyone who checked up and wrote in on the website, relatives, friends, co-workers. As I layed in intensive care, not being able to do very much, having Elaine read your messages and hearing about so many people's prayers and good wishes (even those of you who never met me) was uplifting and a form of medicine to me. It gave me a positive attitude in dealing with my condition, and it gave me the strength to recover. I am home now, getting the best of care, physical therapy, nursing, and well cooked meals. I am on the long road to recovery and look forward to seeing everyone when I am better. In parting I want to thank you all for caring.

Respect,

DT

In closing we wanted to let you all know that we will be making a donation to CaringBridge to help ensure it continues to be available for families like ours and friends like you. We invite you to join us if you are able and so inclined. You can make a contribution by clicking on the link here on the website. Thanks to each of you so, so much for all your loving support.

Elaine and DT
