Yesterday was six months to the day, since David had passed away. I wasn’t going to post a note, as there were too many sad memories of that day, but today I feel much better and thought I would share how we are all doing.
We have had a number of “milestones” since January 27th. My 50th birthday and, David’s 24th birthday, which we celebrated with family and friends. Our 25th wedding anniversary and Andrew’s 21st birthday. Not to mention both Mothers & Fathers day. A lot of occasions, but sadly, all without our precious David.
There was also the RIDE to Conquer Cancer, which was a huge success. Steve, Sarah, Shaun, CPR, Paul & Norm, or as they are better known,” Team DMG”, finished the grueling 200km ride from Toronto to Niagara Falls with flying colours. With the “Team DMG” support team in attendance, our riders left in a sea of yellow jerseys and we followed them as best we could along the route. With the cow bell ringing, hooters and whistles blowing and a picture of David with the Team DMG logo plastered to our vehicles, people began to ask “who are Team DMG?” We had made David famous!!
It was a very emotional finish for all the riders. Steve, Sarah & Shaun all felt that David had been with them through the ride, pushing them forward and keeping them going, even up those terrible hills. When all was said and done the RIDE raised 14 million dollars for cancer research. Thanks to so many of you “Team DMG” raised over $27,000.00. Unbelievable!!! It was a great day for all of us. David would have been very proud.
Our day to day lives have been back to normal for a while now. Laura has been to summer camp as a volunteer, Andrew has just finished his summer job and we’ll be on holidays in a couple of weeks. Time seems to be going by so quickly and the realization that six months have already past, feels so surreal. David is never far from our thoughts however. We talk about him all the time, at the dinner table, or when one of us sees an ad for the Hulk, Ironman or Batman movies and how he would never have gone to the opening night. Of course he is the topic of many a conversation when the family is all together. Oh how he would have loved that!!
We all miss David’s smiling face, his sense of humor and that infectious giggle he had. At the same time, we are glad that he did not have to suffer with DSRCT for any longer then he had to. One of the few things that makes us feel better is, as David’s friend and Pastor assures us, he is only a dimension away and before we know it, we will be together again.
Our thanks go out to you once more for all the love and support you have given us. We appreciate it more than you know. Take care and GOD bless.
Love Sally, Steve, Andrew & Laura
