The PET scan on Tuesday, Sept. 13, showed more tumors in Dan's liver and more nodes in his lungs. We actually got to see the scan and the one from July, which showed us how much the tumors have advanced.
The doctor who showed us the scan, Dr. Ramasubbiah, told Dan he has done really really well tolerating aggressive treatment for the past two and a half years. I think he needed to hear that.
Last week we signed up for hospice. His nurse is Echo Langley and his social worker is Lacey Prater (who is the sister-in-law of one of my favorite students). Both have been great resources in the week we've known them. Echo got him a morphine pump, which helps deliver an even dose of painkiller. This is much better than the oxycontin/oxycodone roller coaster of pain management we were on before.
I will try to update more often. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
