I noticed it’s been a few months since my last update so I figured it was about time for another. In the last few months we’ve seen the seasons change here in Central New York. As I type, the morning temperatures are in the single digits and the high temps are not expected to increase much beyond where they are right now. The extended forecast is for more of the same for the remainder of the week. I’ve just come in from some snow blowing and luckily the lack of wind makes the temperatures fairly tolerable.

As for the home life, I officially closed the pool and ski season has started. I did not get a pass to ski this year because I hardly used it last year and my desire to ski is not what it used to be. Other than that, we had a very good Christmas as we hope you all did as well. I’ve included some pictures of the annual tree cutting event and some of the fun that surrounds that adventure.

On the medical front, I’ve been back out to Boston for scheduled appointments with my primary oncologist and other doctors. The next trip to Boston is scheduled for May. In the meantime I continue the local visits to the various specialists to make sure I’m where I should be from their medical perspectives. I have had some very slight seizure activity continuing in the way of involuntary twitching in my left hand. When this happens, I increase one of my seizure med's for 3 days and the problem seems to clear up. On the activity front I’ve been working out doing weight bearing exercises about an hour a day and have been doing mind games such as Suduko to stimulate and exercise my brain. Both have definitely had a positive impact on my physical and mental well being. I still have bad days but the good are definitely out numbering the bad. The lingering effects of the viral encephalitis have probably been the most difficult part of the post transplant experience to deal with. The memories of yesterday and the days before are still sketchy to me while I can clearly remember everything pre-transplant even back to my first day of kindergarten.

Speaking of transplant, February 6th, 2009 marks my 5th rebirthday!! I’m not sure what that means from a statistical perspective but I believe with 5 years come some fairly positive statistics as far as relapse and other long term effects.
