Dear Daniel and Melanie,
My name is Alma Angelina Maynez (Mexican) I woke up early this morning for the need of something uplifting and encouraging of HOPE. So by chance I came across your wonderful inspiring story!
I see that you speak Spanish ... I was born in Parral, Chihuahua, Mexico. Came to the U.S. LEGAL at age 1. Grew up in El Paso, TX; age 18 I became a US citizen. I just turned 57 Feb 11.
I certainly can relate to your experience. Your story is moving and touching ... yet it gives me hope too. That we can get passed these trials ... we have been a powerful ability to fight off our own GOLIATHS. I liked how you put it with the TEMPLESTS ... great thought ... thank you. The Lord knows I needed this morning a lot off encouagement, love and support in order for me to also beat cancer with Ovarian Stage III-C.
Allow me to share my story; my husband Edward and I were sealed/married at the Salt Lake Temple April 2, 2010; we live in Lincoln, NE. I had been feeling sick on and off with abdominal related symptoms for nearly 10 years! Then on June 2010 through ultasounds and CT Scan it was discovered the ovaries were larged and I had a large mass. July 23, 2010 I went in for surgery at Methodist Hosp, Omaha, NE. It was there I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer; the omenta, apendix, ovaries, along with 2 qts of fluid and two large tumors were removed from me; all cancer except for the apendix. My scar looks like a " road-trip adventure map! LOL!!!
A week later I was given the news it was Stage III-3A. I went to Mesa, AZ for treatments and stayed with my daughter and son-in law there. In Dec. 16, 2010 I had a PET Scan everything looked good except for a mass on my neck right side a mass showed up. Jan 19 2011, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer; Feb 16 I had the whole thyroid removed, there was also cancer on the left thyroid side. I lost my ability to sing and scream! LOL!!! The numbers to the CA-125 a tumor marker for ovarian cancer were down to 51. Our goal was to get it down below 35 a normal and into remission stage. My sweet husband did fly to Az periodically on holidays and for surgery.
Then March 2011 Edward's vision went out; his high blood pressure rocketed-sky-high that to took him to ER and five days in the hospital. I immediately flew back to Lincoln, NE. My treatments were put on hold for a month. We a four day trip with me driving back to Mesa, AZ. It's realy a two day trip by car from Lincoln to Mesa, but we went TEMPLE HOPPING! LOL!!! We were back by April 23 to start my treatments over again and taking care of Edward's health.
In course of this trial my sweet Mother passed away Mother's Day May 2011. She also had been diagnosed previously with her right lung w/ cancer Stage III-B, 2 wks after my FIRST diagnose with OV cancer. Her right lung collapsed due pneumonia ... she was 87 yrs old.
In July 2011 Edward's sight returned back! PRAISE GOD!! So he had to returned back to work; supervisor w/ BNSF Railway. In the mean time I was having abdominal pain & vomiting. Here I thought it was food poisoning! LOL!!!
Sunday, Oct 9, I was admitted to the hospital after a seven hour wait in the ER. The ovarian cancer reoccured to a Stage III-C. The GOOD THING it did not spread into the organs. It was obstruction, tumors within the bowels causing the adbominal pain and vomiting. Initially I has going to have surgery to remove the obstruction, but it was too much of a RADICAL SURGERY per the oncologist and surgean. Instead I was started on chemo Tues, Oct 11; went home Oct 18.
Before each chemo treatment I look to my sweet companion for a Priesthood blessing. A am at peace and feeling courage within myself through the treatments ... knowing my Heavenly hears my pleads, my prayers. I feel my Savior Jesus Christ carrying me through this trial. I feel so blessed to be where I am in my life ... understanding the Plan of Salvation, my purpose here in this mortal life. There are others worst off ... I have NO REASON to complain.
I have the TRUE GOSPEL of Jesus Christ, I'm married to awonderful Priesthood holder, my sweet FAITHFUL eternal companion. I have loved ones and friends giving me loving support and constantly praying over my Edward and me. He has Chronic Kidney Disease Stage 4 now. Heavenly Father must REALLY LOVE US! LOL!!!
I know I am being prayed over by my parents and brothers from the other side of veil ... I have felt their prayers. I do have a testimony of Heavenly Father; our Savior Jesus Christ lives now and of the fullness of His true Gospel and of our Prophet Thomas S. Monson along with the BK of M. Edward and I are Temple Ordinance Workers at the Winter Qtr's NE Temple. Though I have been on medical leave since Oct 2011.
Thank you for your wonderful inspiring story ... very uplifting! My email is firstname.lastname@example.org
. I would LOVE to include you both in my updates through my "journey of healing" ... until then God be with you Daniel and Melanie.
Siempre Tu Hemana
