We went to see Rodney Atkins again last night. He was playing the Brown County Fair up near Green Bay. It’s about a two-hour drive up and it was a little hard this time around. The last time we were headed to Green Bay to see Rodney was just 6 months ago and Abby was excitedly singing in the back seat the whole way up. Although the memory is a very good one, sometimes it's just hard to realize that it will never happen again. I guess part of life is learning to appreciate those one of a kind moments, the memory of which and the friends you meet along the way, carry you through the tough times. We know Abby was with us all in spirit, we just missed hearing her clap and sing along with us. As always the concert was great. Auntie J, Uncle Mitch and the kids came with us to meet Rodney. We brought him an Abby shirt and hat, both of which he liked. He asked us backstage after the concert to talk for awhile, so the whole family got to board his tour bus and talk with him. He was interested in what we were doing with the shirts. The conversation led into Ashley's car washing fundraiser and how we had been raising money through that to buy games and toys for the kids at the hospital. At which point he picked up his guitar, signed it and gave it to us to auction off for the kids (I added a picture to the album here). We're going to wait and figure out the best time/venue to do this so we can raise top dollar for the AFCH kids. What an honor! I continue to be awed by how many people Abby touched. Rodney told us that he has people commenting or asking him about her all across the country. Amazing. Our hearts are swollen with pride and filled up by the generosity that comes from good people doing good things to help others. So, we celebrate life and stand in honor of all our one of a kind moments that leave us full inside and carry us with grace through the world.
