Cooper’s Story

Site created on November 4, 2013

Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most.
This past Friday, Coop was diagnosed with a soft tissue sarcoma in his exterior oblique muscle.  It started in August as a lump on the crest of his hip bone and we immediately had it checked out with our pediatrician (on a Friday afternoon even! ).  He got us in for an x-ray and MRI the next morning and the lump looked suspicious but we didn't start really worrying until they sent us to an orthopedic oncologist.  She scheduled him for an MRI but didn't think it looked like anything scary, more like an injury.  On her recommendation, we waited a month and had another MRI.  It seemed to look less inflamed so she suggested waiting another month and scanning again then doing a biopsy.  Cooper had a needle core biopsy under anesthesia and it was sent off to 2 different places.  Unfortunately, the results were cancer.  The doctors did scans to see if there was any spread and the good news is that it has not spreadt!  We are so thankful for that!  Coop is keeping his sense of humor and thinking he may get some extra good stuff for his birthday and Christmas.....

Newest Update

Journal entry by Steve Moss

Family and Friends,
We've finalized the plans for "Coopers Shindig."  Thank you for your patience.
(Hopefully you know by now that we named this event a Shindig to remember him because
"funeral" and "Celebration of Life" are just not his thing.)

Here are the plans for Saturday, January 11th, 2020.

Drop by the Shindig at:
Columbia Country Club
Between 1:30-4 p.m.
2210 N. Country Club Drive
Columbia, MO

Join family and friends as we share stories, memories and a few laughs and remember Coop.

We'll also be continuing with the efforts for cats at the Central Missouri Humane Society in Coops honor.  If you wish, you can drop off "all things Cat" (food, toys, litter etc.) on Saturday which will be taken to the humane society to help the kitts of Central Missouri.

There will be a private memorial service for family earlier in the day.

The outpouring of love and support for Coop and our family during this time has just been amazing.  All of you are so wonderful.

Thank you all from the entire Moss Family
