Bear Silverstein's Journal
Written Jan 6, 2010 10:04pmBear was extremely sleepy today, but he seemed so much more peaceful. It was nice to just sit with him and our beloved Pastor Joan. For anyone wanting to help children cope with the grief of a situation like ours, I recommend Safe Crossings. Their website is http://safecrossings.org/
Thanks to all of you for the beautiful expressions of love and caring. It means the world to all of us who love our Bear so much!
Written Jan 5, 2010 11:27amBear has had many wonderful visits lately. It's not possible to predict whether he'll be awake or alert enough to interact, so visit when you can. It's always OK just to sit and listen to one of his cds with him, whether he's awake or not. If he is awake, he will most likely want you to help him get dressed and get out of there. "OK! Let's go now" is the understandable and most frequent refrain. I let him know that I know how much he wants to go, and I hope that happens soon. Wish I could say more about how much he's tracking of what's said. I can assure you that he is still very dialed into his favorite music. No question that he's playing along and sometimes telling stories about having seen a group perform or talking about what it was like when he was playing the music. Whether what he's saying makes sense to you or not, it's an act of mercy just to be present and bring kindness and peace into the room for him.
