Chase’s Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most. Your thoughts and prayers are so appreciated. We have wonderful doctors and nurses here and with God on our team, we are ready to compete in the biggest game of Chase's life!

Game On!

Chase's story began about a week before Thanksgiving when he was complaining that his lips were numb, jaw was sore and teeth hurt, all at just random times, no triggers or anything. So he went to the dentist first for ex-rays, looking for a cavity or abscess. Then he went to the orthodontist. Next we made a stop at the local clinic and thought his sinuses were causing the discomfort. All this in a period of 4 weeks, while he was attending classes at DSU and preparing for finals. When he came home after finals, the local PA took another look at him and found a large mass of lymph nodes on his neck, and a small one on his cheek, and behind his ear. This got the ball rolling with a trip to DeSmet for blood work, a stop at the Brookings ER and here we are at Sanford Children's Hospital diagnosed with T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. (ALL)

Marching on in March

Chase and Treva had a big day yesterday at the castle with a lumbar puncture, chemo, pentamidine, CBC, and a EBV/DNA test as a precaution. They also had a ENT appointment. The lumbar puncture went well as did all the checkups. His CBC showed his ANC at 400, which is low so no chemo for a week and we will do another CBC next week. The EBV results take a week, this is the mono test where we hope his number is below 200. All in all a successful day. Chase is back on steroids so I hope Duke wins tonight! The ear nose and throat scope went great, we are not sure how he recovered with all he had going on in this area but we will take it!

Chase has been feeling good and getting back into the college routine to finish out the year. Amazing how he keeps up with his studies and does so well. We are blessed with both our boys academically and are very proud of them.

The title tells the story of what we have been up to this month, March Madness! With state tournaments, DWU NAIA Division II runner-up, and bracket busting games, it's fun for all. Remember, Chase is a Duke fan and I am a UNC fan, I was hoping for a title game but Wisconsin is very good. Jim and Sharon, Go Badgers! (Prayer warriors from Wisconsin)

We are marching on with our Cancer journey with our heads held high and even more determination to beat our opponent. Thanks for all your support and prayers! Here's hoping your bracket is not busted.

First for foremost great news. Keep it up kid. Well now for the NCAA sorry Treva & Tim (which ever is an UNC fan) you are out and we are in. Chase we have been cheering for you and will not jump ship, however we have to cheer for those Badgers. We will cheer for Duke, however when in comes to showdown all bets are off. May God bless you all.
