Charles Humphries's Journal
Written Mar 28, 2013 3:42pmHi Everyone. Thank you for all the prayers today! Charles had a pulmonary test first this morning at 8:30 which showed that his lungs are in good shape. He was called back to prep for surgery right after the test. It took awhile to get him ready for surgery and he was finally wheeled back about 12:00. Dr. V was optimistic following the surgery; everything went well. He removed 7 nodules that were the size of a grain of sand. Praise God!! When we saw him in recovery, he was uncomfortable but we got him settled a little better. I know Charles will be in the hospital for at least four or five days. Continue to pray that he will heal quickly, will stay well and that he will be able to eat well and build up his strength. Pray for all of us. All of this is pretty tough on our other children so pray especially for them. We will keep in touch. We continue to trust in Him. Love to you all.
Right lung surgery coming up!
Written Mar 5, 2013 8:30pmHello, folks!
All things have been going well. However, we had a surprise when Doug took Charles to UNC Clinic on Monday. Dr. Davis told us that Dr. V., Charles' surgeon that performed the lung surgery in August, will be leaving and he does not want to wait to have the right lung surgery. As soon as they can get things set up, we'll have the surgery. Dr. V is experienced in the surgery Charles requires and Charles wants him to do it. He is agreeable to having the surgery now.
Charles had his running foot put on his first knee about two weeks ago; however, the knee had a malfunction and is in the shop for repairs. He did get a replacement knee today. He was planning on trying to run but with the surgery, he will have to move his plans back. He is regularly wearing his Genium Knee and doing well with it.
Charles is continuing his studies at home. He should graduate in June!
Please pray for Charles-that the surgery will be successful and there will be no remaining nodules. Pray that he will do well. The surgery did go well last time and we pray it will go well this time, also. We continue to trust in Him. Love to you all!
GOD is AWESOME!
Written Feb 5, 2013 8:32amGood Morning, Folks. We had great news yesterday when Charles went for scans. Everything looked the same! Dr. Davis went through and compared the scan from January to the scan yesteday and said both scans looked the same! This is great news!!!! Also, his blood count levels are slowly coming up. This will take awhile to return to normal. The new medications Charles is taking are not causing him to feel as bad. He still has some nausea but he tries to eat before taking the pills and this helps somewhat. Charles has lost about 10-12 pounds and this has affected the fit of his prosthetic leg. He went to the prosthetist last week and has had good results. He wore his leg about all day yesterday except for when he was getting the scan. This was a major accomplishment because before getting the leg readjusted, if Charles moved around much or sat down, the leg would come off. He was really frustrated, but the adjustments have made the difference. Continue to pray for Charles-he has been so stalwart throughout everything. He gets frustrated-just like the leg not fitting because he lost weight from being on chemo. He also did not feel up to going to Hanger to have a leg check. This affects the fit of the prosthetic leg and Charles is wanting to try his running foot. So, it's been disappointing for him to constantly face these and other challenges. Sometimes, it seems that the little things that end up turning into big things. We thank God for all things because He tells us that all things work together for good to them that love Him and are called according to His purpose. We know God is working in this because we see what He is doing!! Thank you for continuing to pray for Charles and for all of us. We are all well at this time, which is truly a blessing because so many are sick. Because Charles is taking the medication that affects his immune system, we have to be very conscious to wash hands and try to stay away from sick folks so we don't spread unwanted germs. Pray that he and family stay well. Pray for those unexpected "surprises" to work together for good to God's glory. We are so thankful for your prayer support and other acts of kindness. We continue to trust in Him. Love to all.
