Update - October 7, 2008
We have been home now for almost a week and are getting back to “normal” life. Chance is in really good spirits and finally got to spend a few days with his Papa Rodgers out on the ranch in Beatty. He returned to school on Monday and has been doing great. The school has been sooo wonderful to Chance and his needs. Thank you, Henley!
We return to Portland on October 15 and on the 16th, Chance will have surgery to remove the port-a-catheter in his chest. This will be the last procedure related to chemotherapy. I’m sure we will also see the surgeon about his leg also. This surgery is relatively minor and doesn’t require an overnight hospital stay. I’m sure that he will be somewhat sore, but he will heal faster than ever, since he is no longer receiving chemo.
Our next clinic visit is December 3rd with the oncologists and he will also have several tests done - leg x-ray, chest CT, echocardiogram (to check his heart - one type of chemo can damage the heart), audiogram (to see if his hearing has gotten worse) and lab work to check kidneys, liver, etc. Chance was so excited when he found out that he could get his port out and also that except for his quarterly clinic visits he doesn’t have to have twice weekly blood draws!
We have been so blessed during the course of this trial - financially, spiritually, physically, emotionally. I thank and praise God for the blessings we have received. I pray that we can be a blessing to someone else that might be going through a difficult time.
Good news for a local chemo kid MacKenzie Lusk…she had her tumor removed and is cancer free! Praise God for wonderful, amazing, awesome news!
Have a great day!
Jennifer and Chance
