It has been one year since Casey's accident. We continually use the quote "Find joy in the journey." And what a journey it has been. Through the last year, there have been some incredibly scary times. But faith, positive attitudes and support have gotten Casey through each new turn of events. A few things have really stood out to us through this journey.
The first is the amazing support we have had from people near and far. As we remember the journey we think of each one of you that visited in the hospitals...Sacred Heart, NAICH and Craig. You can't imagine what that meant to us. Then there were all of the cards and treasures brought to the hospital. The goodies got us through some really hard days. And of course, the many, many messages on CaringBridge and each one of you that read the messages, letting us know you care.
Those of you that put together fund raisers are really appreciated. We know what a task that can be and you were all so successful. We wish we could have been there! But the funds you raised have helped us get to this point, meeting all of Casey's needs. And thank you to each of you that made donations.
Those of you who worked on our house are amazing. Every single day we appreciate all that has been done here. It is beautiful. Casey is able to get where ever he needs to be. Thank you so much for the labor, material collections, volunteer organization and thoughtful planning.
The wonders keep coming with Casey's "toys". His gun and computer keep his busy all day every day. One will allow him to go to school and find a career. The other allows Casey to enjoy his favorite hobby once again. Thanks to each of you that have been by to take Casey to the movies, basketball games, hunting, TJ's, walks.... This keeps the days flying by!
We appreciate our medical help and the changes that they have brought about. As we remember each scary moment and the hurdles Casey has overcome, we are grateful to you all. There are so many things that Casey is now doing that we appreciate ...breathing, eating, talking, laughing, hand driving, being up all day...thank you every nurse, tech, doctor, therapist...we love you!
So today is about celebrating the journey. Casey has a long journey ahead of him, but don't we all? This year has been about surviving. Next year is all moving forward and being productive in life...while still working to gain back movement, bit by bit.
Thank you for taking this journey with Casey and family. We are grateful for the support along the way. Our future is all about "Paying it Forward".
See you all at the Balls and Chain Walleye Tournament on Sept. 26th.
