Carrie’s Story

Site created on August 3, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website for Carrie Benson. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We are asking all of you to please pray and send positive healing vibes to our Mom . On July 20th, she had tested positive for Covid-19. Over the next week her symptoms progressed worse with a high fever, cough, weakness, and difficulty breathing. On Monday afternoon, July 26th, she was brought into the Osceola ER and it was found that her oxygen levels were very low and her body was having a hard time fighting off the infection. She was then brought via ambulance to the Mayo in Rochester to their ICU unit. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

To Carrie’s Village,

As we have been through this scary adventure, if there is one thing we have learned through it all, it is that life is so very precious.

Our Mom… Carrie is precious!!!

As she wraps her head around what has happened to her, her the lost time, and realizing what her family and friends have gone through, Carrie herself wanted this next post to be from her. So we are handing it over to her…

From Carrie:

I AM HOME! I AM HOME! I came home today! Emma and Stephanie picked me up.

I just got done having dinner with my kids, grandkids, husband, and my Mother. I can’t tell you how wonderful it feels to be surrounded by my family. To sit around my dinner table, laugh, smile, and enjoy their company.

My heart is swollen from the love and prayers I have received. Every one of your prayers that was said or thought I truly believe helped me survive. I want you to know how amazing it is to be a part of this community.

I am using a walker. I am strengthening my muscles with continued acute therapy at home and outpatient. I will also be completing physical occupational and cardio therapy at Wyoming. I am very motivated. I was told by all 3 hospitals that I am one of the fastest recovering patients they have had. With that, I am looking forward to my recovery to continue on the fast track.

If there is one thing I could say to you all is please go get vaccinated as I was not.

This has been an experience that has changed my family and I. We have come together to not take things for granted. God, family, friends, and community is above all in this world. It has tightened our faith, love, friends, and community. God has given us this gift through this experience.

Thank you all for your continued meals for our family on the meal train. They are so helpful for us during my recovery. Also, thank you for all the donations on my GoFundMe, AGAIN, extremely helpful and appreciated!

All my Love,
Carrie
