Calvin Frank Clayton Poindexter was born at 12:22pm on Feb. 8, 2006. In the days after his birth we found out that Calvin has Down syndrome.

Thankfully, he is doing very well. We feel blessed and happy to have him in our lives.

This journal is severely overdue for an update. What can I say, we have had a lot on our plate. Calvin has adjusted nicely to school, we have moved to a new home and daddy bought himself a law practice, just to name a few things.

Calvin had his first dentist appointment with Dr. Crockett mid-December. She is a very nice dentist and I think Calvin and her will have a nice relationship over the next several years. Calvin had 8 teeth now and it has been awhile since any have come in, but they will.

Calvin also had his routine blood work for his thyroid, but those results haven't come back yet. He is finally 21 pounds and 30 inches long. He is at the 25th percentile in weight and height on the Ds growth chart. Just to give you a comparison, a typically developing boy his age would be 25.5 pounds and 34.5 inches tall at the 25th percentile. With all this said - he eats like a horse. Just to give you an example - once we got home from school Calvin had milk and a whole NutraGrain bar at 3pm. At 4:30pm, he had half a pork chop, small portion of cheesy rice, 4 large chunks of cut pineapple and some more milk. If our stomachs are the size of our fist - Calvin eats twice that much.

Looking ahead - well, Calvin is getting close to those terrible two's - his tantrums are epic in size and length for being such a small guy. We have been working with him through his frustration of communicating with us. He shuts down quite a bit by putting his hands over his face to shut us out. I am sure he would wish that we could read his mind, but we can't have life that easy for him. This was something we knew was coming, but dealing with it will require lots of patience.

Calvin still loves Elmo and the Sesame Street gang. He is going to see Elmo live on stage at the end of January as an early birthday gift. It will either blow his mind or freak him out - we will just have to wait and see.

I can't again tell you how nice it is for all of you to keep track of Calvin as he grows. We will do our best to keep this better updated. Hugs and Kisses!
