Hello everyone, Just thought I would give a quick update. Caleb saw Dr Nieder (his transplant doctor) yesterday. He said Caleb is doing great! The ironic part is that his hemoglobim is 13.7 which is high. James always runs alittle high too. So this is normal, but different for a child who a few years ago didn't produce any red blood cells at all. We are very pleased!
Caleb is growing too. He is now 43 inches tall and weighs 33 pounds. He is still the smallest in his class, but he is headed in the right direction.
He LOVES school! It is hard to believe his kindergarten year is almost over. Last year his teacher recommended that we take him for an IQ test. Caleb tested in the genius catagory. Now this is a child that when he was born they told me to join a support group for children that would be developmentally delayed. It just goes to show you that doctors don't know everything. Caleb is in a gifted program at school now and is doing great!
On another note, we found out yesterday that Caleb has a profound hearing loss in his left ear. He is going for further testing tomorrow. A CT scan has been ordered and he has to see a Pediatric Otholaryngologist. I hope to gain alot more information there. I am very sad and feel as though he has been through more than his share of difficulty. I am hoping that the damage will not effect his right ear. I will keep you all posted.
James is doing amazing! Although he still stuggles with his allergies. He is growing right before my eyes. He is 53 1/2 inches tall and weighs close to 60 pounds. It is hard to believe. He is in a full time gifted program and is finishing up second grade. Where does the time go?
James and Caleb are both playing in a basketball league. It is Caleb's first season and James fourth. It's been fun watching them learn and gain skills. I really enjoy going to their games.
Both boys have a community service project to do for their gifted class. So, Michael and I are taking them over to Give Kids the World next month. That is the village we stayed at when Caleb received his Make A Wish. We are all going to volunteer. Everyone is looking forward to it.
I hope everyone is doing well. Thanks for reading this and checking in. Have a great day!
