Bud (sometimes known as Ralph Stanley) Kilburn's Journal
Written Sep 7, 2010 2:03pm
Well, we’ve managed to stumble through an entire week since Dad left us ~ some days were OK; others, not so much. Still though, carrying him in our hearts has helped us to get up each morning, put one foot in front of the other and just keep on keeping on.
Thanks again to all of you for your love, concern and compassion…that’s helped too.
We have also decided on a date for Dad’s CELEBRATION OF LIFE. Details are as follows:
Saturday, October 23rd, 2010 from 2 pm – 5 pm...or so...
White Horse Inn in Three Rivers, CA
42975 Sierra Drive
Three Rivers, CA 93271-9625
It will be good to see you all and be able to thank you in person. Please let us know if you are planning on attending so we can attempt to guesstimate a somewhat accurate headcount? See you in Three Rivers on Saturday, October 23rd!
¡ VIVA BUDDY !
Written Sep 1, 2010 12:00pmGreetings to everyone. Well, we have "survived" our first day without Big Dad in relatively good shape. A few tears (well, a LOT of tears) but even more laughs. O the stories we've all shared!
Also, just to let everyone know, instead of traditional funeral services, we are gonna take a month or so to heal up and then have a BIG OLE CELEBRATION OF LIFE for Bud. Hopefully somewhere in Three Rivers, CA, hopefully with some Dixieland jazz. Time and place to be announced.
In lieu of flowers or any of that stuff, we respectfully suggest that you donate to your local hospice society. These people allowed us some mighty precious time with Dad in his last days and there's no way we could EVER fully repay them for their kindness, care and compassion. By donating to them in Dad's name, hopefully some other families will be allowed to experience what we just did: truly quality time at the end of a truly quality life.
Another suggestion for a donation in Dad's name might be the California Raptor Center at UC Davis. They're a non-profit center dedicated to the rehabilitation of injured or orphaned birds of prey. Seems more than a little fitting for Dad...eh?
In any event, thank you again for all you've shared with our family. We keep reading this stuff over and over and over and it's helping us in the healing process. YOU GUYS ROCK!
